  2. I'm inclined to think real. Why would you animate something that long?
Anyway, even if it is fake, imagine it is real. How good would the
speed rush be with your head that close to the tarmac? Ohhh yeah . . .

  7. Yeah - left home after posting that to go and listen to some insanely
good bands. I just got home to have both ausmoto and ukrecmoto confirm
    it is real.

    **** I wanna try that.

I live in Tasmania and we have a switcback drop off our central
highlands from a place called Poatina that would make the road he was
on look like a boring highway.

Gunna have to go and research this more tomorrow. Meanwhile my ears
are ringing metal and I need to go to bed.

    Cheers

  9. Really? Cool. About the same time I arrived back in the state after
living interstate and overseas since the early 80s.

I'm not sure what you mean by all of Tassie? Tasmania is bigger than
Ireland. It's just that when you look at a map and see the size of
Australia in general that it looks small.

Has some of the most wonderful bike/car roads though. Google Targa
Tasmania. I did the original stage timing for the first one in 1991.
We were given a Honda NSX and a Porche 944 Cabrio and had to work out
what the rally stage times would be. Sir Jack Brabham and an ex
touring car champion from here (Max Stahl) were going to do the two
cars. But Brabham couldn't make it. So I got the gig. Oh bugger :)

But the problem was we had to do it on open roads. The event runs on
closed roads. We couldn't close the roads to time, so we just had to
go for it. Fucking good, totally illegal, fun. It took a week of
playing insane bastards on some beautiful roads. And being paid to do
it. I dunno. Someone's gotta do it.

And Google Australian Motorcycle Week. We dragged a couple of hundred
bikers down from the slighty larger northern island down for a week of
doing pretty much the same loop as Targa. By the end of it there were
comments of, "Haven't you got a fucking straight bit of road here?"
    No.

This was led by Malcolm Campbell. If you old farts remember back a
long time, Mal rode for Elf Honda in 500s in the 80s. He creamed Wayne
Gardner nearly every time they met. Ran as a wild card in a lot of GPs
but was normally considered too old. But every time he was given wild
card, he kicked arse. Good mate of mine. Grew up in Launceston,
Tasmania as I did, along with David Boon (I went out with his
sister-in-law. Tasmania is a small place. Sometimes far too small.
Ricky Ponting lived over the road from my sister. Anyone wonder why I
want to get the **** back out of here again?). I could go into more
reminiscing mode, but think at 3am I should just go to bed.

  10. And do tell me what bits you want to know about. I'm keen on promoting
Tassie as a motorcycle destination, even though I am heading back to
    the UK next year.

The roads here really are motorcycle heaven.

    Cheers

  11. You did a good tour of the place then. Most people think it is small
    and allow 1-2 days.

If you turned inland from the East Coast I'd imagine you went over the
Lake Leake Rd. An awesome bit of tarmac with fuckall traffic and heaps
of corners. I love it. You get to Campbelltown at the end of it and
usually with lovely little balls of rubber hanging of the edges of the
    tyres :)
I reckon you must have gone to the MRA Tas Rally. I've only been to
one (I'm not into bike rallies) and was only there because I was doing
    sound for the bands.

I love Hobart. That is where I am at the moment, but due to lack of
work I'll be back in Blackpool (of all places) next March. Spent
yesterday in Salamanca down on the waterfront in the sun, sipping beer
with pretty girls. Someone has to do it, and it seems it's me.

Did you get to Wineglass Bay? Near Coles Bay on the Freycinet
Peninsula? I had a mate from Pommieland come over and stay with me and
he hired a bike and we made sure we took him there. It is a magic
place. Google that one. That and Cradle Mt are top places.

I like like your bit about getting lucky. It was like me last year
arriving in your coontry. I was staying in a backpackers in Picadilly
after Heathrow at 5am on a hangover. Later that night I have this
French girl saying "My pack is heavy, can you help me up the stairs
    with eet?".
Anyway, next day I'm thinking "Cool. Welcome to the UK. Have a nice
    French girl. Thanks for coming".
    Nice arrival.
Do you lot do that for every Aussie that lands in your country?
I mean I've heard the phrase "**** the French" but I didn't know you
    took it that literally . . .

  12. Oh, and here's my tips for riding in Tassie:
    http://www.willdayble.com/kevgl/ausmoto/tassie.htm

It's fairly brief and I haven't updated it for over 5 years, but the
    nice roads haven't really changed.

  20. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Champ
Not many. It's always amused be to think of two blokes discussing naming
    some areas.

"Right, so we've got a great sandy desert here. What shall we call it?"
"Ooh! Ooh! Me! I know! How about: 'The Great Sandy Desert'?"
"Inspired! How about this here reef that forms a sort of barrier?"
    Marvellous.
