Falling Rocks

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Andrew McKenna, Oct 30, 2010.

  1. This morning I rode with a friend on a windy road originally built to
construct a dam. Every few kilometres there was sign: BEWARE FALLING
ROCKS. In the unlikely event that I spot a falling rock, and some of
them appear to be 5-tonne rocks, what exactly is it that this sign is
    directing me to do?

It's like those occ-health-and-safety and the privacy &
sexual/racial-harassment courses you have to sign-off on at work. It's
not to help you; to absolve THEM of responsibility/fault.

  4. You are supposed to kick them off the road as you pass them
especially if they are wrapped in a Maccas bag

  5. LOL. Nev.. yet again pretending to be stupider than he really is.
'Beware' means, inter alia, 'be on guard against'. What specific
motorcycle-riding technique is the one most appropriate for being on
guard against falling rocks? Note: 'Not being on that road in the first
place' is not an acceptable answer. Note also: 'Slow right down' is an
acceptable answer for FALLEN rocks; however, we are here concerned with
    rocks that are FALLING.

I was always rather taken by the sign which read "FALLING ROCKS DO NOT
    STOP".

I couldn't disagree with the logic in that one, they truly don't!

Suffice to say there is little fear of damage when a rock hits nev in
    the head

Surely when they hit the bottom, they must.

Well it goes without saying, the *ROADS*. But apart from the roads,
viticulture, medicine, art, law and order, sanitation and public health,
... what have the Romans ever done for US?!

Some of the softer rocks might be damaged I'd think! :)

Same as when your brakes fail. You've got to drive as fast as you can so
you can get home before you have an accident!

I think it would be better to have a sign saying Beware of "fallen"
rocks, but if you cant work it out mate, time to hang up the licence
    methinks

maybe they need to put some of those signs on this road I rode on last
    month

I have to admit, though I have never got my knee down I can ride like
a complete and utter idiot and do most of the time, that sort of
riding over there would last you about 30 mins tops followed by
    death...

that was Northern Veitnam about 20 km south of the Chinese border. The
video simply doesn't give it justice of the size and beauty of it
