Not usually my sort of thing but the lad called me to watch it when
Charlie Boorman and the boys did some enduro training and a timed run.
The venue was in Wales and they were riding Yamahas. Was it the place
some of the usual suspects on here went to not long ago?

  2. Yeah it was last night - the 9 YO lad loved it, powered skateboards,
Enduro bikes, crashing through cars etc. For an adult it was a bit
"Gladiators", but Jenny Frosts bangers would make the other hour you'd
have to watch worth the sacrifice :)

    cheers

Bound to be. There's no other place in Wales with a fleet of Yamahas, &
I'm pretty sure Charlie & Ewan did their initial training for The Long
Way Round there. Don't think the bikes made much of an impression
though as Charlie bought a Gas Gas for enduros.

I gave up after about 20 minutes of the first episode where absolutely
    nothing happened. At all.
    Quite.

Have you not done any of those before?

Perhaps this abseil might get him interested

    Why the <boggle>? I haven't either.

Three of those are hardly common activities and even with
skateboarding, Champ and I are of an age where, by the time it got to
be popular in the UK, we were probably a bit old for it!

Because Champ has similar interests to me.
Sure, but he snowboards and there's an element of cross-over.

At the very least, I'd figured he'd have done some enduro riding and
    abseiling.

I suspect you're (incorrectly) using 'enduro riding' as a synonym for
off-roading. Maybe they did in the program too, but I haven't seen it.

That didn't stop him with snowboarding.

I think it's a common enough use of the term (although strictly incorrect),
that it can be forgiven. I always thought it was commonly used to denote
almost any non-pavement riding other than moto-x.

5 minutes for me, as it was presented by Chris Evans and had
'celebrities' on that i'd never heard of.

In response to Champ's comment, the stunts have been watered down ever
since that poor bugger took a flyer on Noel Edmonds show.

  13. Really? Skateboarding was popular when I was in my early teens. And
whilst I'm younger than Champ I'm not significantly younger.

Only by stoopid people. An enduro is a competitive timed event, & the
vast majority of people who ride off-road have never done one, in the
same way the vast majority of people who ride on the road have never
    done a race.

I was thinking the same, but then I realised when I was in my early
teens, Champ was probably zipping around on a moped so wouldn't have
any interest in toys without engines.

I wasn't saying it was correct usage, in fact I specifically said it
was mistaken, but I think I am correct when I point out that it's
fairly common usage. Which I suppose is another way of saying that
it's fairly common for people to be stupid.

    Doh.

Not really, but they did time them. Though 3 or 4 minutes is hardly an
enduro, possibly a very short 'special test'.

I don't think it's that common. Getting 'trail' & 'trials' wrong is, &
the media love using 'scrambling' to describe any off-road riding
(because they're cunts), but I don't think the general public use
    'enduro' much.

Nothing happened for the first 30 minutes - that's when I gave up (and
looking at the ratings breakdown, so did a lot of others!). Quite
possibly the worst show if it's kind I've ever seen; made me long for
Superstars and International King of Sport.
