You're an idiot. These trips are designed for people who want to ride
fast on twisty, empty roads for 7-8 hours a day. The roads used are
carefully researched & tested to ensure they meet the standard, as are
    the hotels.

Photo stops are made at particularly scenic locations (such as the
Milau bridge last year), & if you want to carry on riding after
reaching the hotel, there's nothing to stop you going off on your own &
doing a loop. And if you absolutely have to stop riding at lunchtime,
the luggage van has space for two bikes so it's not a problem.

If it's not for you then fine, but if you can't see the benefits of it
then you're the moron. In fact saying things like "the whole point of a
biking trip is freedom" makes you out to be a moron anyway, regardless
    of anything else.
At least that's one aspect you've managed to figure out.

The MV tours I've been on usually split into roughly three groups - the
'fast' group at the front consisting of Peter, myself & 1 or 2 others,
the 'medium' group consisting of the bulk of the people (maybe 7 - 9),
& the tail group with the final 2 - 4 people (max 15 people).

People fall into different groups on different days depending how they
feel, & we'll frequently go for a couple of hours before stopping to
let everyone close up again. So although there's 15 people in total,
I'm only in a group of 3 or 4 most of the time.

  3. Most foreign biking trips are designed for that. It's just some of us
have the wit to do it without someone to hold our hand.

Makes me think of coach loads of Elderly people on package trips.
Herded around told where to go and when... paying a premium for an
    inferior experience.

For the MV tour, yes. You don't have to buy one though, hire bikes can
be arranged (& usually are for the 'fly-ins'[1]).

[1] Regulars come from the US & NZ, as well as Europe.

Blame culture. There are plenty of litigious cunts out there, & plenty
of no win no fee solicitors eager to help them out.

The hire cost is approx. 1400 euros for 11 days for a Brutale 910R or
    F4 1000, including insurance & unlimited mileage. I don't know if
that's a special rate Peter negotiates for the tour though.

Sod what anyone else thinks about "individuality" etc - sounds like a
really fabulous (though not "cheap") holiday.

    maybe. Sometimes solo is best.
The problem with this is that I don't really know anyone who rides at
a similar pace - everyone either seems to be much faster or much
    slower[1].

[1] or, on rides I've organised and lead, much more risk averse in
terms of overtaking traffic than I am - I find this incredibly
    frustrating.

Which was why you found yourself standing, alone, by a dead F650 while
dozens of ukrm-ers went ZZZOOOM! past you.

I can't describe how annoying it is to overtake a bunch of other
traffic (not just cars, mind) and then have to wait at junctions for
others to catch up, often being re-overtaken by the traffic I'd gone
    past.
maybe I just need to ride more with others.

There's also a key difference. I book the ferries and the hotel, and
let everyone else get on with it. That's that. There's no form of
organised run, let alone having guides riding with you, and 'sweepers'
    to shepherd the back-markers.

It's this sort of accompanied ride that, IMHO, has the makings of a
    very nasty lawsuit on day.

And three of us stacked it to varying degrees shortly after.

I'm sure there's a lesson in that somewhere.
