Eh? It's the government's fault for people driving to supermarkets, stocking up with bumper bags of Cadbury's and microwave meals and then going home and vegetating on the couch? There's plenty of information about nutrition, but whether it's an arcane science or not, most people generally agree that eating lots of fresh, healthy food and getting 30 minutes decent exercise a day will either stop you being a porker or help you to stop being one. The governent can do **** all to sto pthis happening if you want it to. That's just about the strangest post I've ever read from you.
Been going on since 1943, when the price of a shag was a pair of nylons or a tin of fags. I suppose the cultural imperialism that is Americanisation is understandable from the pov of the lower echelons. After all, many of them want to be like the others over there, and accept uncritically, indeed welcome, the bits and pieces of Merkin culture that can be bolted on here.
Indeed, I think Mr Corfield is getting a tad too political here. The family in question were (a) German and (b) driving an 80k motorhome and so could probably afford all the fresh food they wanted.

Well, it probably is abusive but I don't think anything should be done to stop it. Modern society is too heavily controlled already for my liking. The fat kids may cost society more in the short term by way of health problems (and mental health problems from all the piss taking they probably get at school), but they will die earlier so there'll be two more free spaces in an old folks home. It seems fairly self-regulating.
The point I was making - badly so it would seem - was that government policy for years has encouraged a society that is now predicated on car based convenience and convenience foods. Planning laws have allowed the destruction of traditional high streets and local shops which people could walk to (exercise) to buy local, fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat (good quality produce). It also helps maintain vibrant local centres, a sense of community and money is spent and invested locally rather than siphoned off to Tesco shareholders in the City. I won't go on to mention agriculture in detail but there are obvious issues there as well. Even if you go by bus to do the shopping you inevitably walk part of the way and also have to carry what you have bought. It is limited exercise but it is exercise. Public transport struggles to provide adequate services to many out of town centres from across a conurbation whereas it is typically able to get people into a town or local centre very easily. I just strongly feel that the government could have taken sensible steps to achieve far more balance within its planning, transport, health and education policies. The destruction has now been wrought and the government and taxpayers are now being landed with the very expensive consequences of the lack of action. Oh well it'll be on a par with almost all your posts then - strange that is.
Champ wrote I was told basically what the BCB said by An Accountant way back in the 70's and he was told when he was at Accountanting school some 20 years earlier by the people who claim to have been taught by the people what had done it. So I agree with him. Merkania, 1930's is when it all started apparently. There and Milton Keynes of all the strange places. -- steve auvache 750 VT Shadow (something for the weekend) Bindit 600 (was lost and now is found) GS500E (small but perfectly formed) mongvan (dehydrated)
I understand the other points you've made, they're valid but don't seem connected to a thread about what to do about fat kids. There are an almost infinite number of ways of galvanising muscles into overcoming resistance and blood into flowing. There's no excuse but laziness or a coma for not willfully pursuing some of them. In fact, carrying shopping home from a local grocery store is pretty far down list of interesting ways to achieve it, IMO. Speaking of which, I'm off to try hot yoga tonight. Yoga done in a 38 degree room or something. I'm envisioning something like the Eric Prydz video with less bouncing about.
