Heh, do they also issue a gps locator/tracker to be inserted somewhere
about your person for safe retrieval in the event of a hostage situation ?

  3. Strike out on your own?

    states.

You're okay. There are laws now so you'd get treated the same as a
    younger, able bodied man.

    that sucks.

I'm in the middle of making part of my team redundant. That sucks too.
Although here in the UK, under the contracts people have with my
employer, they get a decent pay-off as long as they've been here a
    while.
what do you do, that "looking in the paper" is the best way to find
another job. Some sort of machine-shop/engineering stuff?

he should have come over here a few years ago and worked on Heathrow
T5 - he could have retired by now.

That's what my ex's son was doing - the money wasn't that good (about
    £17/hour for the nightshift iirc).

    really?

I'd heard that near the end, some of the more qualified/registered
fitters where making much, much more than that.

    Maybe I was misinformed.

The slack was soon taken up by East Europeans. With the weak £ and the
relative bouyancy of the Polish economy many have returned home.

This is not such a bad thing as the weak £ has made trading difficult for
my brother - he imports musical instruments from Italy. He may have to go
back into electrical contracting so the absence of East European
    competition suits him.

    Yes, really!
He left about three months from the end (got fed up with the
travelling). I guess it's possible they whacked the rates up for the
last couple of months if they were getting behind.

I heard (from a bloke in the pub, admittedly (but almost inevitably)
who was working there on a pre-negotiated rate) that the qualified
electrical contractors and their ilk working on Wembley stadium in the
frantic closing weeks before completion were making orders of
    magnitude more than that.
