No wonder the mice are glum, first the scientists stop the alcohol and
then they try and drown them in a beaker of water.

"just how do you tell if a mouse is depressed? By using the Porsolt swim
test. Scientists put a mouse in a beaker to swim for six minutes. The
more apathetic it is, the more depressed it is presumed to be."

"Don't worry we're not being cruel, only the *really* depressed ones
drown, which is what they would have wanted anyway."

  3. Good tube reading, is the Metro. It's like The Sun but with a sense of
    humour.

    I reckon dogs get depressed.

I've noticed that when I return home my dogs make a big fuss and as
part of this burst of energy do routine things, like get a drink, that
they've had ages to do while I've been out. From this casual
observation I've decided that while I'm out they just lie around, too
    depressed to do anything.

Sometimes, of course, they[1] take the opportunity to chew something
which takes their[1] fancy - which I reckon must be the dog version of
self-harming ... they know they're going to get kicked up the bum for
it, but they're just so depressed they don't care.

My wife thinks I should get out more.

[1] Plural pronouns used here to avoid the impression that I'm simply
    blaming the stupid white one[2]
[2] Although my other theory is that the other dog has now learned
that she can do what the hell she wants, safe in the knowledge that
we'll blame the stupid white one.

  5. Your wife is a woman of rare perception and intelligence. Albeit with
    the occasional lapse.
