Fek.....

  1. Not being a software person, does anyone know why when I click on a url link
in a usenet post - IE7 opens a browser page at
res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm# and doesn't open the actual page.
    Its only started happening today.

The settings for the default program for browsing has been lost or
    corrupted.
Try changing it to firefox then back to IE as that sometimes cures it.
If not there's various registry changes which I can't be arsed to google for

  7. It was a vanilla XPSP2 slipstream install with IE7 via Update.

Up to date with all the latest HFX etc etc.

Not a lot of other software on it bar Office, PSP, FreeMind, Sym AV and MS
    Project.

The last thing I remember doing was visiting the Radio2 website; and it
    updating some browser component.

This was so I could listen to the bloke next to me being interviewed live on
the Chris Ev..../ Stuart Maconie show business slot at 5.30pm.

Anyhoos, the panic button as suggested by Gavsta worked.
