    on a twatting Kawasaki ZX-12R.

What a fucking spunk-dripping **** of a job! The fucking petrol tank
    has to fucking come off!

    What arsenugget designed that?

Also, as an aside, often said, but bears repeating: **** Datatool.
**** them right in their battery-draining little fucking eyes.

(sorry about the Nige-o-meter value of this post, but discovering what
needs doing has pissed me off).

According to the Haynes BoL for the ZZR600 the whole fairing has to
come off to change the headlight bulb!
"First remove upper fairing (section 8.15)."
Section 8.15 "To remove upper fairing first remove lower fairing"
I think it's possible to worm a hand in there but you have to change
    it blind if you do.

What? You're saying that an electrical item left running on a bike will
eventually drain the battery? Who'd have thought it!

I presume you're going to be sensible & fit an Optimate or CTek fly
    lead while you're there..?

Which is, what, a three minute job? Five at a push?

    there is one.

But the previous owner (fx:cough: Zymurgy) had seen fit to leave on a
US-style connector that didn't mate with the Optimate I actually
owned...and...err I was lazy and forgot to buy one for ages, and when
I eventually did, the battery was already deaded.

The 1100 is a right **** of a job, too. Can be done without, but it's easy
to drop the lamp into the headlight unit causing swearing at a volume that
    can be heard in space.

I'm me, the person who neglects bikes and smiles sweetly to get
someone else to do the maintenance if I can possibly get away with it
and even I can get a tank off in a jiffy.

I read the instructions in the Haynes manual for mine, and it was indeed off
in a jiffy. Only possibly dodgy bit being the seven thousand rubber hoses to
    remember where to put back.

Actually, seven thousand is an exaggeration - there were 4, but there were
also various tubes that just went nowhere, so I assume the last person to
remove and replace the tank, didn't bother with all of them.

ITYM "some" tanks. Try it with a V-strom for the first time to push the
limits of a "jiffy" (7 "push centre" plastic tabs, 8 allen bolts and 4
cross headed phillips-type bolts to remove, combined with some careful
manipulating of fairing panels. All this just to expose the tank for
    removal).

Then try it with my LS650 and you might experience what could be the longest
jiffy of your lifetime. The clearance is so tight that only about 50% of
LS650 tanks are removable without draining first and then removing the fuel
tap. Mine is one of the removable ones but it can only be done by getting
it into exactly the right position - and I mean EXACTLY. If it's 0.1 mm out
of position (horizontally, vertically or laterally) then it can't be done.
However, getting it off is the easy part. Getting it back on can be a REAL
    challenge.

Heh. I refer to my post of January of this year

    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/msg/44085fb31a7661ca

It's a twat of a job, but since that (new) AGM battery lasted a year
on constant drain that's not bad.

Best to keep it topped up periodically though ;)

That was a Halfords charger tail BTW (which i've posted up before),
but that's not a lot of use to you now, sorry :/

    don't worry - I have one now.

**** all use at the moment, as the battery really is dead.

On another note: I still have the spare key for that Tiger - do you
    want it?
