The bulldog charger I bought for the Voxan died after a couple of
years so I cobbled up connections to its battery lead using two bits
of welding wire poked in to the holes and crocodile clips.

A well known cause of premature big end failure.

    D'oh, why didn't I foresee that!
When the Optimate connector on the Nordwest fell apart (not the one
you have) I made new connectors using speaker plugs from Maplins.
    Didn't blow its cone.

Yeah, can you stick it on the UR to Chez Bonwicks, and i'll get it
    from there. Ta.

In return i'll put your disc lock in the reverse direction.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Do you think I'd actually let darsy know where I live?

AGM batteries are designed to be used in total loss applications - it
should be recoverable, but you need the proper charger. Optimates (other
than the new fangled mkV aren't up to it)

Certain CTEKs are the ones to have apparently

    yes, I thought so too.
I'll look into it - I do have a sneaking suspicion that the Optimate
    itself is not entirely viable.
