Really? Definitely not the case looking at the collecting case in our
Waitrose. I quite often have to elbow people out of the way as they
read about this month's supported charities, and last month they put
up two boxes (one in the store, one by the doors to the car park).

I always make sure mine doesn't go in any box that has anything to do
    with "helping the kiddies".

Strange coves, senses of humour. TG's top of my list, but HIGNFY & QI
usually raise a titter. HH otoh only ever leaves me thinking 'why do
    people find this funny?'.

Well, that's usually how it ends up for me, as the kiddie ones always
    seem to do best here.

Mine hasn't been in a box/slot for months.

Indeed. I like both of those shows too, but they don't often raise a
real laugh-out-loud laugh. Maybe it's because HH is so silly I'm
genuinely surprised by a funny moment?

    Really?

I thought you had been doing quite well, albeit briefly....

It's a combination of the surreal humour and the sheer attention to
detail it takes to spot the basis for a top-quality throwaway gag.

Oh, yes. The only other comedy that I would consider unmissable is Ed
Reardon's Week[1]. Unfurtunately, I have developed a mental picture of
TOG as Ed which is, well, unsettling.

[1] Season 5 has just gone off air.

Loads of dates, but none that floated my boat as it were, so I've taken
a few weeks off to re-group. The mission starts again next Friday,
    unfortunately in Cambridge.

After almost 15 years running a business, I'd love to go back to
contracting (but only somewhere abroad), but it would have to pay
considerably more than anyone would be willing to pay me now

Looks like I'm stuck where I am, at least I'm relatively recession proof

I've yet to encounter 'charity tokens'. That being said, in the midst of
yesterday's Pudsey atrocity, I happened upon a Westland Wasp[1] parked
outside Tesco, and happily chucked a couple of doubloons into the collecting
    bucket.

Which happens to be the 'Home-Start' box yesterday, and got my token, as
it would whichever it was of the three.

Mine usually does on the basis that they are the least able to help
    themselves.

I went into Xerox on the basis of a "supplementary contract" expecting it
to last 6 months. Stayed for 14.5 years and left with a redundancy cheque
equivalent to three years take home pay.

I've made up for it by having 6 employers since 2002. Currently looking for
a 7th before I have a bit of fun with the current one.

Oh yes, indeed. Quite why it is broadcast at 11:30 is beyond me - it
deserves to be bumped up to the 18:30 slot, I reckon. It's dense with
gags and references that are easy to miss and the misanthropic bile is to
    die for.

From an earlier season and my imperfect memory:

Ed: [To Elgar, his cat] I wonder what brand of cat food Tom Stoppard's
cat eats. It's probably an anagram of something.

  19. Ditto this side of the Irish Sea. It was like a feeding frenzy when the
    bids went in.

  20. That beats me - in total of 37 working years, ~26 of them have been for
    one employer - self.
