and I meant to mention, as much as this book is a joy to treasure
forever, you can't really believe anything much in it as "gospel".

it's often mentioned that the maths guys love the bits about music and
art, but poo-pooh the maths; the musicians love the bits about maths
and art, but reckon the music stuff is rubbish...the art guys...you
    get the idea.

    Still, a fantastic book.

If I had to go on a Winkleman it'd be her half sister, any day of the
    week.

Hofstadter was quoting (at length) a nearly contemporary commentator.
Heh. Well, I'd have to count myself more of a musician than a maths guy
or an art guy, and I thought the music stuff was pretty good, although
more on the strength of the dialogues between chapters than the serious
stuff. The pedal G in the Ant Fugue made me laugh embarassingly loudly on
a bus the first time I read it.

  6. She can't be worse than Jonathan Woss. Barry Norman knew film, grew up
with film, his father was a well-known film director, and his knowledge
    was encyclopaedic. Woss's, well, wasn't.

Winkleman looks like a fucked up Amy Whinehouse. I wouldn't **** her with
    Bears, let alone my own.

I only ever watched a couple of Film X when Woss took over. I get along with
most people, but I'd be seriously tempted to twat him before he opened his
mouth if I ever met him.

  10. You'll be lucky -- first collisions at 0800, so according to the
fuckwit^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hpundits only 50% chance you'll see that drink.

0800 CET presumably? Well, I guess I've got just over 40 minutes to
    wait then.

I expect Ivan will be vapourised immediately, but I'm a couple of
kilometers away, so if the black hole just drifts around for a while I

At least I won't have to go to my mother's funeral, but I'll miss the wake.
Come to think of it, I'm paying for the wake (and I haven't paid yet), so it
    could be a double bonus.

He's on my "People I'd happily thump in the chops even though I've
never met them list", along with Chris Evans, Tony Blair and others.

maybe you need to consult some kind of "anger management" therapist.

Jonathon Ross and Chris Evans are just trained chimps, practicing
their buffoonery in any way they can. If I could get paid as much as
they are for basically just dicking around, then - **** yeah - I'd
    jump at the chance.

Of course, on the other hand Tony Blair is a war criminal and should
be tried and punished as such.
