Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, BORG Yerss... I downloaded the update from the link on the mozilla.org webpage (which took me to getfirefox.com). I then found the archive was corrupt and would not install. At which point I got bored, uninstalled FireFox and returned to the IE6 fold. <warm happy sigh> -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - Manufacturer of the "Champion-105" range of rearsets and Ducati Race Engineer. Does it not occur to you that as FIREFOX HAS A LITTLE ICON and REDIRECTS YOU TO THE "We've got an update available" PAGE it's possible, just possible that ANYONE THAT USES FIREFOX WILL KNOW, AND ANYONE THAT DOESN'T WON'T CARE. I thought I'd spell it out nice and clear, in case you hadn't noticed, and needed it pointing out. I mean, it's glaringly obvious to me, but it might not be to you. Oh, and you should probably do a windows update, and update your virus checker. I'd check your email and breath in and out occasionally while you're at it. You never know - you might have forgotton, or didn't know or something.
Christofire wrote Opera did that to me the day before yesterday. 15 seconds later and I had the all new version 8 to get to know all over again. That'll be me that will.
snip (now there's something you don't see much these days) Bugger all. Clicking on it just takes you to the Mozilla homepage.
It turns into a little red icon. Click on it and a box pops up saying its looking for updates. It finds them then another box pops and says its downloading them. Except it doesn't ... not for me anyway. I went to the Mozilla site to get the download in the end.
sweller wrote Define better. It is a little different in it's interface but works just the same as the old one.
A little red arrow appears when there's a critical update available, see [1] for an example. If there's a none-critical update then you'll get a green one. There's also a blue one, but I can't remember what that indicates. [1] http://www.mozilla.org/press/mozilla-2004-10-01-02.html
It may not be an arrow as it depends on which theme/skin you use. Whatever it is, it should appear at the right-hand end of the menu bar, under the window minimise/maximise/close buttons.
