First bin - ever

    Not a good start to the week.
    About 200yds from home and a too enthusiastic exit from a junction led
    to a high-side/low-side situation - thankfully ending on the low side.

    Damage to me: plenty soreness, no breaks
    Damage to bike: crankcase worn through [1]; every panel on LHS
    buggered.

    Points of 'interest': my denim jeans seem to have offered better
    protection than an armoured textile jacket; crash bungs (at least these
    crash bungs) were useless; it was entirely my own fault; several
    members of the audience were very helpful in checking I was OK and
    moving the bike so thanks to them.

    Arse!

    Let the tea and sympathy/piss taking begin

    Clumsy cnut....
    Depends what the bike is. If you've actually damaged the components
    behind the LH cover (alternator) then it'll be expensive, and there's a
    risk of damaging the end of the crank. If there's no alternator there
    (piggy-back instead), then there's still the risk of crank damage.

    Best thing is to remove the cover, clean out any debris behind it, slap
    a temporary patch on it (epoxy or something), and fire the engine up.
    If you have damaged something, it will be very apparent, very soon. If
    it runs sweetly, then no worries.

    Ho yuss!
    It's a Busa. Must've hit pretty hard because there's a big chunk
    missing and the rest is worn away.
    Thanks. Not sure if it'll be possible with the amount missing but will
    give it a go if I can.

    If it was running whilst on its side & is of a design suitable for
    pumping oil up the crank breather into the airbox, bent conrods may
    ensue. I'd have a look in the airbox before firing it up again.

    If any debris has found its way into the sump, the damage will already
    have been done, IMHO.

    Ouch. Mega ouch. Ouch with Diamonds and Oakleaves. Have a bloody close
    look at the crankcase proper, because that sort of impact can crack it.

    If you can see no signs of impact or wear on the l/h crank end
    (whatever's behind the cover, basically) then you may be OK.

    Yeah. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't agree with you. I could try
    blaming those pesky Avons I suppose. Any mileage in that do you reckon?

    Thanks. I'll check that. The worry is it wasn't running by the time we
    stopped. Hopefully stalled rather than siezed.

    Just went for another look and that's definately a worry. Can't
    investigate properly yet because it's languishing in a factory car park
    down the road.

    Unfortunately the only fluids on the road are mine and the bike's.
    There's not even an impressive looking darky on the exit of the
    junction.

    Tip over sensor, assuming it has one. During the rebuild check this
    hasn't been dislodged (under the seat on the 1000) otherwise you'll
    have no end of fun with it cutting out when leant over, BTDT on the
    race bike.

    I don't like them now! Actually in all honesty I can't really blame the
    tyres for this little incident. I've done maybe 500 miles on them and
    only had one rear slide in that time on a bumpy road and they've never
    marked up badly. Haven't tested them in proper rain though so can't
    comment on wet weather performance.

    Know any good sources for 'Busa parts? Generator cover is only £48
    from the main dealer but I'll be looking for LHS fairing assuming the
    engine isn't toast.

    There's a LHS fairing on ebay for £95 inc postage, item 8040772163.
