Ta for that. I imagine ebay will be the way to go. I just need someone
to wipeout the RHS of a red and black one.

No gore really, just a healing flap of skin and no blood.

Firstly: Did you go to A&E? I would have suggested you got it cleaned
out before it healed. You probably can't get a stitch in it but it
    should have been covered up.

Secondly: Did you notice that you used the generator housing as an
    expensive crash bung?

It might have been a good idea but I did pull back flap of skin and
rinse thoroughly so hopefully it'll be OK. I'm more worried about the
broken rib that's likely to puncture a lung while I sleep tonight.
Cause of death: drowning in own blood. Cracking.
The generator housing was only the secondary crash bung. It's probably
that which saved my rear NS indicator from any damage - so that kind of
worked out. The primary crash bung (not shown) did it's job of smashing
the fairing and then breaking off leaving the end of its M6 (ffs) screw
    embedded in the tapped hole.

  7. Looks like you might be lucky and got away without crankshaft end
damage. You might need a new alternator as well as the casing, but
compared to an engine rebuild, that's cheap.

Iiwy, I'd look at finding some protection bars for the casing ends.

Until the flap of skin dies and then goes mouldy while attached and
takes the rest of your arm with it. Keep a very close eye on it and
if anything odd even appears to happen (evben if 1mm of it goes an odd
    colour) you
Can I have your Hayabusa if you die within the next week from a
    punctured lung?
Thank goodness the NS rear indicator wasn't damaged - they're far more
expensive than a new engine. :)

Crash bars? On a 'Busa? Yer 'avin' a giraffe, aintcha.

There are some pretty funky and subtle-but-effective casing protectors
about, that come in the form of moulded carbon/kevlar covers, to be
attached with Sikoflex to the casings. They're not cheap (when bought
new) but reviews by racers that I've read reckon they do save casings
    - and they're cheaper than new casings and a lot cheaper than fucked
    engines or generators.

If you're referring to the AV45/46, this is true - but only to a
limited extent. When new and at walking pace, or pulling away very
cautiously, sometimes you will feel the rear oscillate gently,
probably as the deeply diagonally-cut tread alternates its angles.
Once on the road so to speak, you should never feel this. I quite
    like it, myself ;-)

It's not even as bad as it looks in the photo
I'll keep an eye on it. Cheers.

Hmmm, after yours and Bear's comments I might just remove the skin
    myself.
Sure, why not. If I time it right, it might be back on the road by the
time you get it (I'm aiming for this weekend). You'll have to put up
with the scraped fairing though. Bad news is I'm feeling better this
morning so you might be out of luck...
    I was certainly relieved. :eek:/

  14. That's what I meant. 'Crash bard' was more a generic term for some sort
    of protection.

    Not on here there isn't.

I'll email details of the anti Avon clique that exists but you'll have
to slash your wrists with a broken engine casing once you've read it.

They're not even up to serious abuse on a Bandit so there's no way
they're up to it on a Busa. They're absolute fucking crap if you start
to push the bike a bit hard and I wouldn't put them on any bike
    belonging to me.

That should get the usual response...

Before the Avon's I had Dunlop D207s which aren't supposed to be the
best tyre in the world either. So I dunno.
I could use broken engine casing or a jaggedy piece of fairing.
The worst thing about the incident is not really understanding what
happened. I reckon I was virtually upright when I gassed it so I'm
surprised it didn't just sort itself out. One theory I have is that I
might have (unintentionally) opened the throttle more as the bars
flapped. It was pretty violent and I was very much the passenger. Well,
    for a bit.
