Trip to Notts today for HG waterproofs. Unzipped all zips, got them on
over full leathers and boots with minimal hopping. Hoping not to have
to repeat this at the side of a road in a downpour. These will be
    squished in under the seat.

Picked up a rucksack to replace the melted one - this one is staying
on my back - don't want can of deoderant next to hot exhaust moment
again. Will bung change of clothes, toothbrush and note of
hotel/B&B/party destination details into it. Got bank card, not got
breakdown cover. have list of 'good bike roads' for the Scotland end
    of the trip.

So beyond stopping regularly for fuel, anything else I need to
    take/know?

If possible, find a bridge or underpass to shelter under while you don
    them.
When are you off to Scotland, I leave next Thursday for a week or so.

Better than the "can in my back" moment you potentially could have.

Wrap the can in something like a shirt and position it away from the
    exhaust...

Also watch out on the A90 south of Fraserburgh - speed camera breeding
    colony
The A9 gets (slightly) better the further north you are.

An E111, scotchland is foreign, innit? :)

2 cloths, one soapy and wet(in a plastic bag), one dry, to wipe all the
    dead midges off your visor.

It's OK if you wear a back protector, but I wouldn't without.

    And this would be because....
Last time did this it shifted. Wasn't aware it had shifted until
pulled into service station - very lucky.
Noted ta. On tank then, just an annoyance for petrol stops.

    It was.....
Van tried to take me out while I was filtering today, but I'd checked
ahead so knew I could just pull round him onto other side of road as
there was nothing coming and no junctions that anything could have
    appeared from.

TBH South of Aberdeen was the worst, can't actually remember much about what
the Fraserburgh-Aberdeen section was like, thought I should err on the side
    of caution.
iirc the dual carriageway stretches had them.

    Fucking safety Nazi!

FWIW I never wear a rucksack while riding, but not for safety reasons,
just that they're too uncomfortable over a distance.

Bah humbug. I've worn a rucksack on a bike a million times (well,
maybe not quite that many) and I've never worn a back protector. I'm
    okay.

What? That's not something Lady Nina /needs/. It something *you*
    might /want/.

You don't need to clean a visor *during* a single journey, ffs.

I don't wear rucksacks as they get tiring I don't have a back protector -
I have a Belstaff that seem pretty solid built up with road grime.

However I would offer this advice - don't carry three Cornishware tea
mugs in a canvas satchel then crash.

  19. Depends on distance, dunnit?

My jaunt to work this morning was done with a laptop in
a rucksack, along with a pair of sandels and shorts (in rucksack).
I get too hot in jeans and trainers during the day...

Reckon? M1, from J12 to the services South of J17 - stopped to
de-numb fingers, found visibility wasn't that bad after all - once I'd
removed the ice from the visor.

Not much later that same journey, stopped at petrol station and lifted
visor to discover that the sun was out after all and I wasn't riding
through dense fog - cleaned the salt off the visor and all was well
again. Had to stop again between Oulton Park and Hulland Ward to
    clean salt off the visor.

Not really applicable this time of year - but just to illustrate taht
sometimes a visor *does* _need_ to be cleaned during a single journey.
