No, I am aware that even small displacement bikes will beat just about any
average car off the mark. And I'm not worried about the HP difference. I am
also aware that when the speed limit is 60 Km/h, or when you're stuck in
traffic, your 160 HP of bike is pretty pointless. I'm not concerned with
HP... I don't plan on killing myself any time soon.

It's hilarious, a lot of my mates spend their time arguing over whos car is
more powerful... when in the end... they all, more or less, obey the speed
    limit.

    Zebee

Once again, thanks for all your advice Zebee. I know a family friend who
used to race at a competition level and has spent his whole life tinkering
with bikes and cars, so I'll get him to come along when I'm finally ready to
go ahead with all this. He can test ride it for me and check out all the
    mechanics, just to be safe.

You've been very helpful. Thanks mate.

    Bikes are
Cheaper to buy, sure. A big sportsbike is definitely not cheaper to run.

Sounds like you'll want insurance.. So (guessing at your age and
    history) look at $3000/year plus.

I owned a 600cc sportsbike and spent $1500 on tyres in 18 months.

Servicing is more expensive and needs to be done more frequently.
Equivalent parts are _much_ more expensive.

I'm averaging around 6L per 100km on my current (650cc) bike. A lot of
    modern cars can match that.

Just get a 250 and worry about big bikes later ;-)

hahahaha, you think bikes are cheap? Think again! Wait till you go to
register and insure it comprehensively, or replace the tyres every 6000kms
on your litre bike, oil changes every 6000km, services, all the other add on
bits, like suspension, power commanders, oggy knobs, tassles .. haha ..
you'll just end up spending a whole crapload anyway. Seriously, when you buy
a 250 Spada or something, YES, it is a cheap mode of transport and very
economical etc. When you go into the litre category you forget about money
and just enjoy it. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a cheap option. But
hey, if you're lucky enough to be given one of the things, you should have
about $20,000 worth of extra cash to spend on upkeep!

Yeah, I think you're right. And apparently 9/10 girls know that fact too, so
they always choose the R1 rider over the CBR, unless of course they read a
different magazine, in which the tables are turned.
