First question I was asked when I reported a crime.

What ethnic group do you feel yourself to belong to?

DOES IT FUCKING MATTER?

Next time ask me this at the end of the phone call. Take details of the
crime first, and where etc, get the lot on the system and then ask the
stupid questions later.

I really cannot believe this happened and I will be expressing my
displeasure to whoever will listen at Police HQ.

Reminds me of the time I was asked which ethnic minority I belonged to and I
replied Scottish.....
They said, "but, but, but - you're white."
"no kidding" I said, "really?, most people see us as blue"

I can't believe they asked you this *before* you were asked for details of
the incident. Surely this can't be policy. It's obvious potential for
discriminatory treatment is just so, well, obvious.

 

well obviously you haven't suffered years of injustice, so yours is a minor

I actually got a follow up call a couple of weeks later from some place
asking about my experience with the police and could I answer the
following questions. Stuff like do you think there is less crime in your
area, do you feel safe going out, that sort of thing..

The worst bit for me was the time it took to actually report the crime
in the first place. Same as when I saw a ne'er do well getting in next
door. Fifteen fucking minutes I was on hold for by which time I judged
it was long enough to get in, rummage around and **** off again.

 

I got that after my recent off. I pointed out that it was a bit silly
trying to breathalyse a man who had several broken ribs and other bits, was
ripped to the tits on morphine and was gasping into an oxygen mask.

Actually, I may have mentioned this before...

 

Not only gathering statistics before doing something about
crime but dumb as well. "White" is not an ethnic group, it is
a skin colour, possibly a race.
