  3. Yeah well, according to google groups, I sprung into existance on 18 Feb
    '99 - you on 10 July '98 - Hamish on the 5th of May '98 - Clem on 27
March '98 - and Zebee was complaing on the 13th August 1992 about a
previous post of hers that had gone missing!

Conehead appears to be the Johnnie-come-lately here, first appearing on
    5th March 2002...

I suspect I managed to acquire an "air of old-hand-ness" by socially
meeting up with a bunch of then-regulars really early on in my time here
    - I went to an aus.moto dinner with Puss-n-boots, Hiro, Shredder, TonyF
(and some others) to celebrate their return from a Tassie trip about the
first weekend I had my licence, I got my l's course rider training from
Shadow, and I met Leddi, Bren, and Jeffles a few weeks later. Then I met
a big bunch of aus.motians at the "inaugural inaugural aus.moto" rally
at Tintaldra in 2000 (as opposed to the "second inaugural aus.moto
rally" at BTH's place last year)

  4. :)

There's still time, you could patronise me now if you like...

"Hey Clem, whats the fastest 250? What oil should I use? What tyres
should I buy? Whats the appropriate pre-planned response to having some
twonk from NZ get you uni email account suspended?"
I was just figuring last night - I need to get off my butt and do a long
trip or two between now and mid feb to keep my 50,000km/year average
up... I'd come up and visit, but you live scarily close to bits of my
    family...

    ;-)

Most people who's vehicles are stolen consider they have taken sufficient
    precautions to avoid that happening.

Google groups appears to be pretty patchy pre 1996. I can only trace my own
posts back to Dec 1995 in aus.moto, and 1994 in some other groups.

    never left one.net!)

Thank you. Those instructions look to be quite comprehensive.
Now.. where do you leave the spare key to the chain?

    I'll shorten for ewe.

Open car door, place into netral, hand brake on. the front wheels will
    be pointed roughtly straight ahead.
    Open gargage door.
Get in car, with right foot out side door, release hand brake and use
    foot to push car out.
You can now load car onto truck. Use the truck winch to get it up.
Go back into gargae and wheel bike out and onto truck.
Close the garage door, wave at neighbours, pull out book make notes
    and drive away.

How is that going to stop them? Break in to the garage, and then break in to the car and release the handbrake and push
the car back a bit to clear the door (but leave it in the garage for now). Then break in to the storage room, smash the
furniture up to get the chain loose (don't worry about removing it from the bike yet). Now push the car out of the
driveway, and quickly back up the ute they brought with them and lift the bike straight onto the back and drive off. Not
too hard at all! If they're any good, they'll make some noise but not too much, and in any case will be in and out in
only a few minutes at most, before you or the neighbours even know they are there. The car is not providing any security
at all, it just adds maybe a minute or so to the time it will take them to steal your bike.

Theo, if the pink of the chain matches the pink of the pink bike, you'd
be able to see it (possibly, hear it) even thru a cam cover. :)

I only found out about newsgroups when I asked a chartered accountant where
he got all his free porn from, and I'm pretty sure it was last century when
I started posting, but it wasn't as Conehead.
