Fitting a centre stand to a CBF600

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by anonymouslemming, May 13, 2008.

  1. Firstly, apologies if this doesn't come out right - I'm using Google's
web thingy as I'm stuck on the late shift at work this week.

I'm just after opinions about how easy / hard fitting a centre stand
to a Honda CBF 600 is. Is this a job that I would need paddock stands
for, or can it be fitted in the 'up' position ?

Or is this something I should just get the dealer to do, seeing as I'm
buying the part through them due to being too shite to find another
    source for it? :D

  3. Thanks - with that summary in mind I picked one up and went home to
    fit it.

It wasn't that hard, but fitting the spring was a bit of a dog. I
ended up removing the stand, hooking the spring to the bracket on the
bike and the stand, then using the stand as leverage to get it back in
    place.

I are a happy lemming now - much easier to maintain the chain!

  4. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique,
    typed
Next time you need to do that, stick coins in between the coils of the
spring (put the spring in a vice and bend it side-to-side to get the gap
    for the coins).

Put enough in and the spring is long enough to fit. Put the stand down
and (magically) all the coins fall out.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just get a paddock stand?

  7. Paddock stands are a pain to carry if all you want is a stand for a shag
    ;-)

You're going to have to try that again, but in English.

  11. Probably, but a paddock stand needs to be stored somewhere and I think
I'm already pushing my luck with the amount of bike crap that is
accumulating in the house. This seemed like a healthier option :)

  12. I looked at that, but this has a spring inside another spring and they
were both dead tough to move and I couldn't work out how to get coins
between both springs at the same time. So I resorted to brute force
and ignorance. I've always got enough ignorance to get me through :D
