The subject is the Ingrish description of an item I've just received from
    HK.

    The instructions are:

"1. The film inserted into the camera Shoe.

    2. Will bend soft films, the camera nameplate before the deduction can be
    used."

A half-sucked Werther's Original to the first person who can guess WTF this
    item is.

I suspect you're over-estimating the desirability of previously enjoyed
sweets. But I'll have a guess at a camera flash.

A negative developer? (from "deduction", via "minus" to "negative")

    In communiqué
    Or perhaps a transparency/negative scanner?

Has anyone got one of these?

    Are they any good?

Has anyone got one running with Linux?

Oddly, yes. A gift to my self last festive season.
Like many things, you get what you pay for. My Veho has the advantage of
having a very small footprint and appealing to the pikey in me price
wise. I am told I should have gone for one with much better pixel
resolution. The aim, was however, just to scan some of my old 'slides'
    for the sake of nostalgia.

Examples here. I must redo the ones I like best after cleaning the
slides properly. Note the grainy effect.

Not tried - though I as I have an old box running Puppy linux I suppose
    I could experiment.
    See above.

...and the smart-alec award goes to DnC.

The slide/negative scanner was more creative and had a better ring to it but
    it was one of these
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270285264244,
which, BTW, doesn't make a bad job despite the dodgy instructions.

  10. If you already have a dSLR and can lay hands on a traditional slide
copier, you can produce much better results just as quickly, but it
depends what kind of results you want and what you will use them for.
That item will satisfy the majority of box-of-old-slides users with
    adequate quality.

    Thanks for that.

So if it's crap I can blame you,
seeing as how Bear hasn't contributed
    to this thread?

  12. No, because if it's crap you're automatically not in the category it
    would satisfy.
    I don't do blame.
Of others, yes, not of myself.
