  2. Sticks in my mind, I'd only been back from Cyprus a few days and had
for the first time flown Helios. I believe they only had one 737 so if
that's the case I'd been on the plane that ended up in the mountain.
You can see why they were getting concerned then. Small airline like
Helios may well go under after this summers crash.

  3. The Lysander was the British equivalent, but was bigger overall, much
heavier (could even carry bombs!), longer range, etc. The Storch was an
    incredible lightweight aircraft.

Best known for being the plane used to rescue Mussolini from his
mountain-top jail, by Otto Skorzeny, and for being landed in the middle
of Berlin just as the Russians were closing in, by Hanna Reitsch.

  4. Actually, I think it *has* been done successfully. But it doesn't happen
    very often, thank God.

I had a laptop backpack when I was at Lucent, and it was excellent
(now sadly a bit fucked). They're just a bit neg when you're wearing
    a suit.

Do they sell them at LHR T4?

  10. Istr the Septics used Cubs for arty spotting in the early years in Nam.
Hmmm... a slow plane drifting around within rifle range. Not a job I'd
    fancy much.

That's the one which in the original video, has the most thick sounding
South African bloke going something like "What's that hey?" on it isn't it?

She's not alone - winds me up somewhat that does. "So and so is visiting
London this week and can't bear to use the Tube - it's so dangerous" -
usually said in a throw away statement to me. I usually just raise an
eyebrow and mention something about it being okay for the 10 times a week I
    use it.

    But anyway.

I commented that my friend Petra had a larger flat than the others in her
    block in Koepenick, Berlin.

"Zat is because of de balcony"

"ooh yes, you've got a balcony"

"Zat is courtesy of de RAF"

I work with Germans every day and have _never_ had any problems
discussing the war or its effects.

  16. Utter bollocks, innit. Like anything else the Tube is only dangerous if
    you get killed on it.

  20. Thanks (I think) for confirming what I had thought - if you're falling
towards water in a jet then make sure you get your final goodbyes sorted
    out.
