Flying (and irrational fear of)

  1. She's going to walk down the little white line in the middle of the road
instead is she as that is obviously far safer?

I'll say no more - I'll only get cross. I've exceeded my disagreement
quota with you of late so I need to stop arguing.
Enjoy. Take out a loan for the taxi fares.

  3. Proves my point. That helicopter ride he had was fairly dodgy.

    Is he dead, btw?

I've got four days there at the end of the month. Having looked
through a few guide books, I've decided at least one of those
days would be better spent visiting Bruges.

  6. Yes I like Brussels. It has a certain charm.
Bruges is fantastic. Excellent sea food, beer and chocolate. As well as
    great architecture and history.

They stopped doing the Seacat from Dover to Oostende years back but you
could easily do a decent (summer) day trip from London to Bruges or else
enjoy the Belgium seaside by taking the coastal tram at Oostende and
heading north to the Dutch border or south to the French one.

    Happy memories.

Just a bit. The old airport is no more, and they've built a new one
on reclaimed land jutting out into sea. When one thread collides!

Well I worked for a German for 2 years and have worked closely with
Germans over the last 6 or so years, less closely over the preceding 4
years and I've managed to avoid any discussions around WW1 or 2,
    studiously avoided them.

Pos. Should be beetling through there soon.
I find they (the type, not the Tumi specifically) ruffle the shoulder
a little, in a way which displeases me.

If the shoulder strap is wide enough it doesn't cause this problem as
    much.

The 'Carbon' has a nice wide shoulder strap FWIW.

Why? I mean, most people you'd be speaking to weren't even born then
and will have been educated in a very broad way about the period. Most
of them have accepted it as a bleak period of German history, but not
one about which they should personally feel responsible.

They also tend to be much _less_ likely to hold one-sided views,
    unlike very many poorly-informed brits.

I don't know about that - I simply gathered from his tone of voice,
that he was not interested in starting a discussion about it.

Because, surprising as it may seem, I avoid any risk of conflict unless
there's something to be gained from it in my professional life.

I wouldn't avoid the subject if someone else raised it, but even when
out on the piss with Germans I've known for 5 years plus it's not a
    subject they raised.

If I raised it the result *could* be damaging- whilst this is unlikely
(and yes you're right about the ages) there is no benefit from this
discussion and to be honest I've no real interest in discussing WW1 or 2
from the German perspective, I'd rather discuss current issues than old
    ones.

However, I'm more than happy to discuss the Irish situation with the
Irish, and have done on many occasions. Several of them seem more
pissed off about Rockall than NI.
Not sure about this point, I suppose it depends on who you associate
    with.

And, despite being one (I suppose), expats are the worst kind of
    one-sided, uninformed, dull cunts.

This isn't a dig at Ace, actually, but a general observation that
    expats are best avoided.
