Leeds seems to be experiencing the highest winds I've experienced since
1983'ish. The St James construction site, except the bunkers, is
battened down. Just seen a ton or so of linked chain fence lifted off
the ground and moved up a slope. Drove across town in an Audi A6, don't
think I've been in a car before when it was rolling violently due to the
wind, like it was going to be lifted off the ground.

I have cancelled a flight from Leeds Bradford this evening!

So....for once, the first time I can recall, I wouldn't venture out on
the bike. Guess that makes me a cream puff then.

  2. Came back to work from home about 11ish; as they still hadn't figured out
how to get power from Didcot Power Station to Milton Park (The cooling
towers cast a shadow over our office btw).

Took a short cut back road, as all the A34 avoidees are using the main roads
around here to miss the A34 roadworks.

There was some proper good old fashioned flooding in one of the villages, at
one point I had water coming up over the top of the bonnet, over the
    soup-err-charger vent.

My wheelie-bin's flown across the drive & slammed into the front of the
Jeep 3 times so far. I've given up moving it back now.

The waves in the toilet bowl did freak me out a tad this morning, until
I figured out what was going on.

I was on the M25 this morning and fully expect to be tooling back again
    later.

    It wasn't *that* bad...

that'll be the M25 that's closed in places due to blown over trucks.

along with parts of the M1.

The A1 was still open cos the truck got blown off the road onto its
side leaving the two lanes open.

I'm now working from home due to there being no power in WGC due to a
tree taking a power line down at lunchtime. Power was due back on
there at about 4pm [1] but they wanted the building empty [2] by 3 as
H&S considered it too dark with the safety lighting to be safe

I came home to find half the shed hanging off and half a fence
    bending.
the way my car was moving about on the A1M I'd not like to have been
    on the bike.

the cat doesn't like it either!

  6. Top gusts at both Heathrow and Northolt were 77 mph. A quick look
at BAA's site shows delays of around two hours for LHR flights, in- and
out-bound, and a lot of cancellations.

Good luck. Some GWR trains have been cancelled due to excess wind on
    the line.

Well, my guess is the wind blowing over the soil stack vent where it
sticks out the roof is causing negative pressure in the stack, which in
turn is trying to suck the water out the toilet through the U-bend.
This is only a guess, but supported by the fact that the water level in
the bowl is a little lower than usual, indicating it's sucked hard
enough to draw a bit of water out.

I seem to have acquired a spare, but it's in kit form, so I'm not sure
    you'd be interested.

I was riding between Ampthill and Cambridge this afternoon and it was rather
challenging, there were 3 lorries turned over on the M11. riding through the
"B" road I saw an old tree get blown down and I thought I had just cleared
it when a branch broke off and hit me in the foot...ouch. I managed to keep
my little GS upright though. Strangely enough, I enjoyed the ride.

  14. We get that. The tide goes out, as it were: the water level can drop several
    inches.

I've been asleep. Did Blur die or wasn't the wind strong enough to
