I've recently discovered the joy of drinking a proper IPA. So far, the
ones I like best is Marston's Old Empire and Skrimshander IPA.

    What does the Font recommend?

For those who like Bavarian-style Wheat Beer, Tesco's stocks a
*Ukranian* Wheat Beer that is absolutely superb. Unfortunately it's so
good that it's affected my short-term memory and I can't remember what
    it's called...

I'm quite a fan of Brains IPA - they serve it on draught in the local
'non political club' (whatever that's meant to mean).

Don't know if you could get it in your neck of the woods, though.

    then Specialty Beers 2006.
I have not yet tried the Spring Goddess but in previous years Spring Breeze
was excellent. Chilled Summer Swallow is the canines cojones on a hot day.
Move the teutonic arse in the direction of Aldi :)

Osprey at Sainsbury's is a good one, and my own favourites are Old
Speckled Hen, Newcy Brown, Old Peculiar, Guinness, and WhiteChapel
    Porter.

However, any real ale is OK with me.

I prefer the cans to the bottles. Dunno why, they taste different.

    Tried it on Friday.
    Nice. Not exceptional. Just nice.

Old Empire is very nice indeed. Statto introduced me to that one, for
which I am grateful. Stronger than it looks ...
As only one of your above list could be described as a real ale, I'd
suggest Fuller's ESB, Adnam's Broadside, Jennings Snecklifter,
McEwan's Champion (No1 Ale) and Gale's HSD. All available in
supermarkets, for your convenience. Ordinary piss-weak IPA is, of
course beneath contempt, only suitable for fertilising leeks and
    consumption by Gurls.

I'll keep an eye out for that then.
Indeed, I meant any of that lot *plus* any real ale ;-)
Yes, Champion and Broadside are good ones for sure. Most of the
supermarket bottles are all reasonably OK, although you still miss
something that you get when it's pulled from a hand pump.

I sometimes find a weaker beer is nice too, just for the flavour - a
Dark Mild often fills that gap.

Which one are you counting as the real ale then?

If you've not included Old Peculiar, I'd suggest going out and trying
some now it's being brewed by the Theakston family again.

Old Blotchy Cock, as it happens.

I'd go for Old Peculier, myself - but whatever flips yer bottletop.

The Cricketers on Goldington Rd has Sneklifter and Broadside on at the
moment. It's also got Spitfire, some Brains shite, Pedigree, and a few
other lesser beers to choose from. I might have to go back for more
    tonight.

Do it. It's far too strong to be a real mild, but is remarkably
handsome in the glass and on the palate. Best mild ever, in my book.
