H fancies one, good, bad indifferent? [1] Or should that be Font Of All Opinions.
I had a Cooper S about 5 years ago & it was shite. It was off the road more than on it. BMW where no help. The standard cooper may be a better bet.
Still made in England by a bunch of workshy halfwits that couldn't bolt a car together if their job depended on it.
I saw one with a blue paint job and a white strip along the bonnet/roof/tailgate. Dodge viper style. Very nice. Still it's a car so nuffink to get excited over.
Nice to look at, ok to drive IMHO. Not as quick as I expected. I'm sure Brownz will be along shortly to comment.
Well as we have a car thread going. I have the 911 but also a '93 MR2 G-Ltd jap import I like a lot. Bloke at work has a very clean Turbo version. Good car/bad car?? and would anyone like a slightly tatty but very serviceable G-Ltd for about a grand.
wasn't a diesel Skoda Fabia VRS quicker? I seem to recall a test where they overlaid the respective laps.
Errr excuse me, daughter is just completeing her business apprentiship there and is very happy and has had a Cooper as a company car, ok now she has a BMW but all the one's she has brought home have been excellent cars. They have a very good quality control dept who are not ignored as I was when I worked there for Rover, they seek to improve everything for the better and not just 'make do' so from my point of view of the car has had the proper servicing then if she likes it then go for it. Just my 2p worth. Alan
Yes but Cane's wife doesn't need to settle for a Mini. That and they have **** all space inside. And there are far better cars for less money. And. And. And.
On Top Gear, yes. I'm not sure what they were trying to prove though, the Cooper had 110bhp, the Skoda 130bhp and loads more torque. The Mini still managed to overtake at the first corner the Skoda's handling was that bad - then the Skoda got past on the straight and got too far ahead on the fast section before the last two bends before the finish line. All it proved was a Mini handles and brakes much better than a Skoda Fabia, and a more powerful car of similar weight is faster in a straight line...
They're ok for a girl, handle well, aren't fast by any measure in none-S spec, so don't expect a hot hatch. Also, the boot is tiny and the cabin quite small on the "old shape" ones. The newer, bigger ones aren't as bad (change over at about 54/05 plate IIRC) Nice gear change, but they're expensive for what you get, and everything is an option, nothing of use is standard. But if the expense isn't much of an issue, and she doesn't mind the lack of speed then she could do a lot worse. Despite what Nige said, reliability issues seem to be confined to niggles really, and are the exception rather than the rule. And as for the service, well if you get a good dealer, no problems, I've even found a good Renault dealer... They do exist!
