    heh - maybe.

But have you ever been hit in the thigh by a "rubber" bullet, or
    watercannoned off a beach?

    Both hurt a fuckload.

That's fine if all goes perfectly. If, Ged forbid, you take a little
spill and snap a footpeg off, or tweak a wheel rim, or break something
critical, it's a bit more of a problem. There really aren't that many
BMW dealers in the 3rd world compared to all the Japanese shops.
Anything over 500cc is a big bike, and relatively rare. Something to
    consider, at least.

Nope. I've been in the area when teargas was used but that's about my
    limit.
I'm sure they did. I remember being shown a rubber bullet and they're
    not exactly small are they?

I *think* it's only there to give rigidity to the feed pipe. I've got
it right near the end and the clamp holds the hole lot tightly in
    position.

never had that particular "pleasure", though I've had to evacuate from
a burning Ulsterbus at the bottom of the Ormeau Road after it was hit
with a Molotov; the fumes from burning bus seats are pretty fucking
nasty, I can tell you. Actually, that also reminds me of lying in bed
at night in my garret room on Burmah Street (just off the Ormeau road)
watching tracers fly over-head through the dormer window.
"avoid kinetic impact munitions" would be my sound advice on this
subject. And the one that hit me had already lost some of it's KE
bouncing off a wall as far as I could work out.

And it really did hurt like a bastard - I had a bruise from below my
knee to above my hip for weeks.

It wasn't even my riot, FFS, I'd just come out of Belfast Central
train station at the wrong time.

This was the second time something similar happened to me just outside
Belfast Central - the first time I was hit on the back of the head by
    a thrown half-brick - I still have the scar.

Student life in Belfast in the mid 1980s was fantastic.

Money isnt really an object. The R1150GS is just too damn heavy. I
really struggled to get off the mountain in France and dont really
want to expose myself to that type of risk again...

Heh, I could repaint an armstrong and Im not anticipaiting having to
single-handedly quel a simmering riot. But useful thoughts non-the
    less...

Thank you for your input... :)))

So they can buy expensive large capacity motorcycles which will give them
brown trousers and then be sold on, creating a lively second hand market?

Yeah but it helps to inspire a few people to try something... It has
to be better than Holywood Wives...

Wouldnt you grab it with both hands if someone said to you, hey ride
round the world, and we'll film you?
