FOAK: Accident stats, slightly OT

I remember reading a few years ago a study of the number of serious
and fatal accidents, broken down by time of day, day of the week, time
of year etc. It concluded that the most dangerous time
(statistically) was a warm Friday evening in June, and the safest was
a Tuesday morning in January (or somesuch - details forgotten).

It made interesting reading, and would settle a couple of points in a
discussion I am having in another forum. Anyone recognise the study
and can point to a link? Google throws up a lot of statistics for
individual areas, but I was looking for something UK-wide. Anything
    bike-specific, so much the better.

    Ta.

Ah, but that's only 75% true, and even then only 40% of the time.

Well, it might help convince someone (new to biking) who believes that
if she only goes out on sunny days it will be "safer".
I though it was weekends. Statistically significant data, and with
credible causation - all the economic activity going on Monday to
Friday builds up pollution in the atmosphere, which by Saturday has
built up to levels which precipitate more rain in the following two
days. IANA statistician or meteorologist, but it kinda makes sense.
    Certainly did this weekend.

I remember hearing about this one 'some documentary' that after 9/11
the weather across America changed for the better due to having no
    aircraft exhaust in the air.

Or is it that around large cities in America it rains more on a
Saturday and Sunday because of the pollution from cars going to/from
    work?

Much human misery has resulted from a failure to understand that a
correlation is not proof of a causal relationship and that some correlations
    are entirely spurious.

"You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes,
hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the
shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s. For your interest, I
have included a graph of the approximate number of pirates versus the
average global temperature over the last 200 years. As you can see,
there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between
    pirates and global temperature."

Beat me to it, but my college's piratical crew has nearly seventeen
    members alone!

I'm sure it all makes perfect sense...

Platupus has a theory about pirates, or more accurately about people
    speaking with a pirate accent...

He may be along any minute now to ellucidate...
