    All,

My Toshiba Satelite often A100 locks up, totally freezes. It has done
so ever since I bought it and it's been back to Toshiba three times
under warranty (they provided a list of what was replaced - pretty
much everything!). Still does it though, and it seems to be getting
worse. Happened twice in 15 minutes last night.

I've changed the RAM twice, thinking it was something to do with that.
Nope. However, changing the RAM has resulted in no longer having to
remove the battery in order to get it to reboot.

It seems quite random when it does it and sometimes it goes for weeks
and weeks without locking up at all.

It's got 2gb RAM (upgraded from the original 512mb) and is running
Vista (has done ever since I bought it in 2007). I've tried 2 512mb
SODIMMs, one 2gb SODIMM and now it's running a matched pair of 1gb
    SODIMMs.

Anyone else had a similar issue? Anyone know what to do to fix it?

    cheers
    fm

Way too late. And I bought it in Malaysia, so probably no consumer
protection! Singapore based call centre were quite stroppy and refused
    to replace it anyway.

Have you tried d/l'ing the latest 'live' copy of (say) ubuntu and running
it as a live CD?. That would, at least, confirm that it was a h/w problem
rather than a Vista 'feature'. This same CD will also allow you to run
memtest86 with no OS running. Just my 2p.

On a particularly bad night (tonight) for freezing I tried the Ubuntu
disc... froze after about 30 minutes whilst using Firefox to access
Hotmail (not that I suspect Firefox or Hotmail, it's just that's when
    it happened)
