No, it's "paying" to even to wander around outside the pyramids, even
to see the (vandalised by Napoleon) Sphinx. It's a fairly big site
    y'see.

If you have time, take a wander around the back streets of Cairo. Don't
look lost, but like a man with a purpose (like you're working). Go into
some of the cafés. You'll have a cracking time.

Oh, and if you do hire a car and hit someone, don't stop. Go to the
nearest copper and report it there. The Egyptians are liable to pull
you out of the motor and string you up, if you do stop.

I'll have 'er indoors with me, but I can try purposeful.
I'm 99% sure we won't be hiring a car. Should have enough to do without
    it.

OK, it's late on Friday (work wise) and obviously I'm being a total TC.

Is it free to wander around the outside? If not, is there some kind of
fencing encompassing the whole site, coz as you say, it's big.

Then is it EGP25 to get to the inside? And what's on the inside?

Nah, it's probably me. I've not really explained what I mean properly,
I think. EGP25(ish) to get to the site.

The Pyramids are situated in an extremely large site, to which there is
a bloody long wall around it. The only way into it, is by a gate
access, where they hit you for the dosh. Then you've got a fair trek to
go up to each of the Pyramids. By looking at google earth, I think the
wall does go right the way round.

I don't know if you can go inside each of the pyramids (I've never
tried). IIRC, they don't even let you climb them, but I could be wrong.
Mind you, you wouldn't want to climb them, as the blocks are extremely
    large. It's very impressive though.

Then in the same area, you've got the Sphinx to have a butchers at. At
lot smaller than I thought. They've also got this evening laser show,
which talks about the history of the Pyramids, etc. Absolute shite and
not worth the extra entrance money.

I've posted up a google earth image to give you an idea.

    http://big.rosbif.org/misc/pyramids.jpg

To the north of the largest pyramid is the entrance. To the north of
the largest pyramid, you can see a blue dot. IIRC, that's the Mövenpick
    hotel swimming pool.

I can't remember if the road that runs East-West between the
largest/2nd largest pyramids has an entrance at the eastern end. I
think so. To the eastern end of that road, you can see just below the
road itself, the Sphinx. The laser show is to the east of the Sphinx
    slightly.

It should give you an idea though.

Just fucking google-earth it! I had to say that, so I could be the
first person on Usenet to say that :)

Leave 'er indoors by the swimming pool and bimble off by yourself. Er,
    maybe not.
True. It's probably for the best, in any case. Don't be scared of the
way they drive. After all, the Egyptians aren't.

Look, it's obvious. He's been in Frogland so long he's losing his
    ability to parlez Anglais.

It's quite common amongst fluent Francophones, so I'm told.

    OK, understood now. Thanks.
Read about that. Is it really tacky shite shit, or something that a girly
