The incident of which I've just posted had me whacking the offside
front wheel against the kerb of a central bollard/keep left sign.

I was attempting to eject some chewing gum, that had stuck to my
fingers, out of the window. I should have just spat it out.

This was a What Car thread and you said "I had to talk F into
considering a Focus" which sounds like a previous event.
And no, Scottish is subtly different.

Haven't you realised yet that Hog is getting confused between your
girlfriend "F" and the male "Alex F", ex-poster, Shrek-lookalike, and
    uber-fit roadie?

I've been monitoring Piston~Heads for cheap Boxsters.

Seen a 2006(iirc) 987 S, all the toys, very good spec, for £21500 which
is about £3.5k under normal, it sold within hours.

    Saw a 2007 3.4S tiptronic yesterday for £25995, about £3~£4 under the
    usual price.

It looks like the odd person thats been made redundant having to sell
    their toys quick.

There is an overall price reduction, but its small and slow.

    Yep.

I must admit, like a few others, I'm very tempted with the low interest
rate to go out and buy a new[1] bike or car.

It's not a proper recession, but if the banks want to loan us money for
next to nothing, who am I to complain?
(isn't that how we got into this "mess" in the first place?)

[1] New to me, I'd never buy a properly new car. Bikes are fair game
though, don't cost enough to be crippled by depreciation.

Much better, but not enough to totally gain my confidence yet. Getting
them up to temperature seemed to help a bit. I do like jaunts on weekday
afternoons. Not much traffic and few dawdlers.

[1] Totally dry roads, wet roads and raining hard, mud and leaves plus
the odd small branch, some very bumpy bits[2]. Some of the locals no
their roads very well and make impressive progress in fairly unlikely
vehicles. If WUN wasn't safely in the south I could have believed he was
at the wheel of a Rav4 I was following at one point.

[2] In fact, it looks a weeny bit saggy at the right hand back corner
    now :(

FFS. The locals might even *know* the roads. Brain softened by hard
    suspension joggling.

I'm not convinced the rate will stay low all that long because they'll
only keep it up until they drag the RPI figure back down to a level
where inflation looks better than it really is.

There is a school of thought that inflation will undershoot the 2%
target, in which case rates would need to stay low.

    Only time will tell.

To be fair, that's not quite how it goes to be fair. Usually someone
suggests something else, and then JackH an SteveH shout at them about how
shit their choice is till they go away, then JackH says how much of a
'devestatingly effective cross country weapon' his Passat is!

    ;-)

In the grand tradition, SEAT Leon. My Cupra's a hoot but my mum's got a
plain old 1.6 on (I think) an 06 plate and she rates it. In budget,
    too.
