    HEEEELLP!

Prolly very easy if you know how - but being clueless in this department . .
    .. . .

My outlook express decided all by itself to compact and clear out all my
mail folders. Can I find them? can I bollox. I've found the .dbx files which
don't appear to be the compacted ones - don't know where to look for the
compacted files and how to extract them.

Any ideas 'coz I'm going to be up to me arse in alligators very shortly if I
    can't get it sorted.

    TIA

Yup - that gives me the path to the .dbx files which I've already tried
restoring to no avail - do you know where it saves the compacted files to by
    any chance . . . . .

and a search for all .dbx files.

    My C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
    Data\Identities\{4A5DC688-8900-4D90-A1AD-B0F0FACE28E2}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

folder has deleted/drafts/sent.dbx's in it. On Win2k that is.

Been rooting around in there - it would appear they're not the compacted
files. My fault for using OE. Bollocks, bollocks and fuckety bollocks.

Time for a very large G&T.

  10. Running XP? If so, do a system restore to a time before the files got
    zapped.

Surely System Restore is intended to restore borked *system* files, not
user data like mailboxes. Isn't this the point when we ask the question
    "Where's your backup?"?

I don't use Outlook Express myself, I do have users that do though.

    I wish they didn't.
