A Costco has opening up near to me. Is it worth the £20 they want for the
priveledge of shopping there? I've heard some tales of cheap oil, tyres,
tools, odd yank stuff that's unusual here (like BFO coolboxes) etc. OTOH
you'd have to be making pretty big savings to justify the £20 fee, and I
have to wonder if it's one of those places that screams "We're cheap" whilst
displaying prices without VAT so much that thick people begin to believe
    it...

    What say the FOAK?

You can easily save the £20 if you take advantage of the voucher
booklets that they send out every so often.

Some stuff *is* cheap all the time (e.g. car batteries and engine oil,
/some/ alcohol, cheese (esp. goat), bread and cakes); other stuff isn't
much different or is more expensive.

If you're looking for something in particular, check prices elsewhere
before you go. If you're just wandering round, take someone who's
familiar with the price of stuff in supermarkets.

Oh, and their pikey cafe is *very* cheap, but *very* pikey.

And even without. Contact lens solution used to be *really* cheap for
    example.
Meat was always good IME. Washing powder also.
    I was never that pikey.

It's well worth it but you've got to know your prices and the quality
is generally very good on everything they offer. The meat as already
    mentioned is excellent.

However, it'll cost you a feckin fortune because you'll end up buying
all sorts of great stuff you never knew you needed.

FWIW I've also use my card in the US, Canada and Mexico.

*Ding* - they don't have much choice, but the stuff they do sell is miles
cheaper than I've seen it elsewhere. Actually I bought my last pair of
specs from them as well and thought I got a reasonable deal.
I don't think the meat is especially cheap, but it's always very nice.
It's great if you've got kids, as it caters pretty much directly to them
(pizza, hot-dogs, etc.) and the food is tasty, if crap.
