    I have an Yamaha ZE50 Zest - air-cooled two-stroke from 1993.

It's restricted to 50kph, which was fine when I was in the UK and using
it around town. Now I'd like to be able to do the NSL.

I remember being told by someone in the place I bought it that the
restriction was electronic and that it could be removed by 'disconnecting
    one wire'.

I've Googled but all the 'HOWTOs' talk about widening the exhaust outlet,
drilling things out and replacing things. Anyone here know anything about
these engines (it was also used on the Jog and one or two others IIRC)
and if they are electronically restricted (rather than mechanically)? Or
was the person at the bike shop full of shit?

I have no idea about the ZE50 but ........
Chinese 50s have a pipe stub coming out of the exhaust near the manifold.
Cut it off where it joins and seal up the hole. The easiest way is to
leave about an inch when you cut then get the open stub red hot, crush
flat with pliers, bend over and crush again. Job done.

I really wouldn't want to go faster than /our/ NSL - I don't think the
brakes would be up to it. No, just keeping up with the traffic on our
only dual-carriageway will do me :)

But Steve, I think a 50cc scooter well-suited to the NSL where I live :)

....a ding ding ding, a ringa ding ding - two stroke, innit? ;-)

AFAIK, the Jog also shared its engine with the B-Wizz (CW 50) of that
era... and given these were rather more popular with 16 year old
scrotes looking to go that bit quicker, you should find more go-faster
bits available if you search on those rather than the Jog.

I've had a Google - appears there's a washer behind the variator that
holds these back amongst other things, including a restrictor washer
    in the exhaust.

I expect it was designed to produce 2bhp or whatever will give 30mph.
The best bet would be a big bore kit with the ports in the right place
to give more power, and probably different gearing.

This advice is worth what you paid for it.
