Ours - built-in by Moben - has decided to go on strike. It's quite simple in controls, an on/off button, and 3 settings buttons, hot, medium, warm. Press a setting, the LED comes on, shut the door, and it does it's stuff. Except it makes the effort, it pumps out whatever water was left in the bottom (tested by pouring a kettle of water in) then stops. I really don't fancy trying to replace it, especially since the house is going up for sale in the next couple of weeks. Any suggestions apart from angle-grinder or it it wiv an ammer? -- Rob_P UKRM(at)indqualtec.co.uk uppercase(d) BBIWYMC#1 BOG#11? In my house we have this really cool thing called a sink. Near it are these two pipes coming out of the wall joined into one by a thing called a tap. It is exceedingly simple technology and only breaks down when we are more than 4 days late paying the water bill. Green Scratchy sponge thing, bit of washing up liquid and Robert is your mothers brother. New house, new dishwasher, handy warranty for those oh not the green sponge again moments.
Water inlet solenoid valve doobrey-wotsit. I've had a couple of those give up. Could be inside, or near the tap if it's got one of those no-flood gadgets.
Davethedave spoke: Yes, well in this case it is Robert is your Dishwasher! on account of every other bugger refuses to get their hands wet! In our case it will hopefully be New Boat, New Dishwasher, but not for those "we are in the middle of nowhere with flat batteries and no mains hook-up" moments. -- Rob_P UKRM(at)indqualtec.co.uk uppercase(d) BBIWYMC#1 BOG#11? Having used one in one holiday cottage I wouldn't give one house room. I can do the washing up in a tenth of the time it takes one of those contraptions.
You have to turn it upside down so all the sump water runs on the floor and undo gazillions of screws.
You do realise what the definition of boat is? boat - A hole in the water into which you continually throw money but can never fill."

Eh? You have to buy the machine, have it installed, it uses power, water and chemicals to run. You seemingly - if I believe the adverts - need to buy 2 or 3 different products to wash dishes, glass and keep the machine nice and sparkly. Those products are all extra to needing a sink, some washing up liquid, water and a sponge thing to do the washing. You'll have to explain why a machine and lots of associated products with their production and transport costs are environmentally friendly when set against the costs associated with using a sink.
It's possible that a modern dishwasher can use less water to wash an equivalent amount of dishes than using a sink. And remember, the water to wash in the sink still needs to be heated, so don't think of that as free or the dishwasher necessarily requiring more power.
you'd need to have use the dishwasher for many years to recoup all of the other costs to the environment that Paul refers to i.e. making the dishwasher & transporting it from China. Your approach would only work where the installation was to a home without a sink & water heating mechanism already installed. I don't know anyone who lives in such a place.
