FOAK - Fixing a mobile

'erself dropped her mobile (S-E c902) a couple of weeks ago, and smashed
the screen into a squillion bits.

It seemed to switch on OK afterwards, but the screen was totally dark, so
no way to see what it was or wasn't doing. Which, since S-E's sync
software doesn't do a thing until you make a choice from a menu on the
phone-screen, meant there was no way to back the contacts up to a PC
    after the event.

A new screen has been acquired, and the whole thing has been put back
together. Without, of course, any sodding success whatsoever. The new
screen is still consistently and overwhelmingly the one true colour.

    Arse.

All the connectors seem to be connected properly and firmly.

So - wtf now? She's muttering about having lost all her contacts.
Because, of course, they weren't synched BEFORE the event...

This may go one of two ways.
    1. It will all be my fault. All of it. Even dropping it on a hard floor.
Even though I was several hundred miles away at the time.
    2. I will be the hero of the hour.

    Clearly, 2 is preferable.

Anybody think of a way to get the contacts off the phone without having
    to use the screen...?

Find someone else with the same handset, and get them to run through a sync,
noting each keypress - asking on uk.telecom.mobile would be a good place to
    start

As a slightly odd approach, if the bluetooth is on you could attack it with
the bluediving software. I have managed to get contacts off my nokia 6310
this way. Nokia and Linux often don't play nicely together. :(

Arse. Looks like the theory's sound, but the phone is fubar.

Should add - it's visible as a USB device, pause, device manager
refreshes, pause, device manager refreshes, pause, it's gone. Longer
pause, it's visible again. Repeat ad infinitum

As it's fucked anyway, try bunging it in the freezer for a few hours. A
bit of thermal movement may bring it back to life temporarily.
