I would imagine there is, if, when taken out, the answer to "do you own
this vehicle" was yes. Lets also not forget the registered/overnight
    address.
Quite possibly yes, but equally I worry about not worrying enough.

Er.. but you said later on it's exactly what you'd do.

<shrug> I know it's strictly speaking not 'honest' - I'm just asking if
    it matters.

The Ins Co have zero risk as far as I can tell - I can't make a claim!
However I can see that the basic principle of insurance is not quite
being upheld - ie they know all the details.

The key issue, for me, is that the ins co. officially DON'T know about
    it.

My question is how serious is that in the grand scheme of things - ie
will they actually give a toss. There isn't any way *I* can make a
claim - I just wonder what happens if the new owner makes a claim -
whether the two insurance companies will go 'hang on' or just not even
    register it.

I guess the key question is how long does one get in terms of grace
period "I've been away, the bike was sold whilst I was away" etc etc.

I said it was something I would do earlier actually.
I'm just trying to tell you the facts.

Well I have more than half a brain, however it's just a bit too honest
    sometimes for it's own good.

I'm not even going to _ask_ about not mentioning my change of address!

Why is it that when people do not understand something they bring up the
    word TROLL?

    No.

think about it, what are they going to do..

Take you to court for not cancelling a policy?

    No

Waste time entering into reams of correspondence for a policy that can't
    be claimed off?

    No.

Not even notice, because it's buried in a system with several hundred
tousand other insurance policies, several of which probably overlap.

    I'd have thought so.

You write software, don't you Dan? How many times have you gone off and
added a feature to check for exception that nobody is looking for on a
    day to day basis?

Worst case scenario, you get a letter saying they believe the bike is no
longer in your posession, you send one back saying "Yes, terribly sorry,
I sold it as I'm in the process of leaving the country.. I know I should
have told you, but I've understandably been a little busy and it slipped
my mind, please can you close the policy."

And, when you're jailed for life, don't blame me! ;-)

You'll want to at least set up postal redirection, otherwise you won't
get the lovely letter from them confirming your four years NCB.

Hence the footnote in the original post:
[1] Assuming the post redirection service actually works and I get it.

Eh? Since when have I been tight with money? I just don't have any
rather than choose to not spend it :)

I could ensure an old shed yes - but I'm also moving to the CI and have
no idea if the underwriter covers out there. Don't really feel inclined
    to find out either.

It's your posting style, innit. Popping up out of nowhere, spouting
absolute bollocks, using BIG letters all over the place, saying FACT!
as if that makes it so and behaving generally like a clueless fuckwit.

You are to be taken from here straight to the M25, and forced to stay
there until you get a new lap record.
