I did the same thing with a car insurance policy a few years back:
Sold car. Didn't buy another. Let insurance run out to "preserve" NCB.
No problems before, during or since.

As to the "you can't have more than one insurance policy on one bike"
    issue.
I think it means one insurance per person on a particular bike. But I
    won't swear to it.

    Get it right - it's a variable limit, 20 - 35mph.

However they do have amazing things called "Ferries".

I also wouldn't be at all surprised to find that I end up doing more
miles per year on whatever I get next than you do on your VFR with the
whole of that NSL filled, holiday destination that is Wales at your
    doorstep.

Scooter-type thing for the island and an island-registered biggie garaged
    on the mainland?

Why would I do that? I'd rather drive the car and have the biggie in
    the garage on the island.

I can lend you a CG to transfer the policy to if that's a help.

You need to have an "insurable interest", which isn't the same as owning,
but is for most typical consumer insurance situations.

    You've got it now ;-)

You can't insure anything without an "insurable interest". Otherwise, it
would be a pure gambling contract, rather than a contract of indemnity.

Thanks - very kind, however as I'm moving as well it wouldn't really
    help IYSWIM :)

Yeah, I know - would still be an issue though as I would need to
're-register' the bike itself (to Guernsey plate) plus I would also
still have the issue of whether or not the cover is valid in the
    Bailiwick.

So basically I think the option of keeping (relatively) mum is the best
    way forward :)
