Right, yes it's scary but im fitting an outboard hydraulic front disc to the lambretta http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d33/Donegal_Paul/update1.jpg Anyhoo, the supplied braided hose is ok but going to be fucking awkward to fit through the headset. So, what i was thinking was to see if i can make a hose that starts at the master cylinder with a right angle banjo. Thing is Ive no idea where to start looking for these or even if its possible to do this? -- Donegal Paul Maico Letta 247cc - We have the technology. Lambretta Li186 - We have some more technology. You used to be able to readily make up your own brake hoses (I made all mine on the Guzzi) but the fittings, hose and olives are not so readily available now. What is available is screw together kits - should be easily sourced from most bike shops.
yeah, had a look about the net and theres a couple of places that have some of the bits but i dont really know enough to order the right parts. These guys http://www.bsr-aerotek.com/store/index.php seem to have lots of bits but i dont know what thread or anything i need :-( I can feel a trip to flitwick motorcycles coming on seeing as theres nowhere else bedfordy that i can think of :-( -- Donegal Paul Maico Letta 247cc - We have the technology. One make that you can look for is Venhill. Even a few shops over here stock their hoses and fittings.
So Ole, any decent places in the sarf of "Bert" (Weedon) that I should look out for on my midsummer wanders over there? -- Beav OMF#19 VN 750 Zed Thou mail is beavis dot original at ntlworld dot com (with the obvious changes)
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Donegal Paul Colin Collins at Letchworth usually have a decent stock of hoses and fittings, as do Bikestop in Stevenage old town. Take one of the existing banjo bolts so you can compare threads, there are several possibilities. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - To stay young requires unceasing cultivation of the ability to unlearn old falsehoods. What kind of roads do you like and what do you want to do or see? Point of entry and exit? Length of stay?
Any and all apart from dirt strips like they have in the north of Bert. I'll be going up north, probably to O-vik, but definitely to Dalarna, so the southern part would be more a sighting lap for the guys who're coming with me and I've never been further south than Goteborg, so I can't tell then what to expect. and what do you want to do or see? I doubt the guys I'll be with will have any interest in historical stuff, so it'll be restaurants, places with bikes and/or helicopters (we're a group of RC heli flyers too) places where there aren't any fucking camera's and even good camp sites or cheao as chips hotel/motels. Point of entry and exit? We're thinking "Ferry to Goteborg" rather than "Ride up from France", so not TOO far away from your own good self. Length of stay? Two, maybe three weeks, depending on how much time my pals can squeeze away from work. -- Beav OMF#19 VN 750 Zed Thou mail is beavis dot original at ntlworld dot com (with the obvious changes)
"Wicked Uncle Nigel" replyeth to Donegal Paul managed to get a right angle banjo that'll do the trick, but i think i may have left the hose a little short, not sure yet till the scoots all together, but now i have those shops to go to and a wee bit less numptyish methinks i might build one up that im 100% happy with rather than "make do" -- Donegal Paul Maico Letta 247cc - We have the technology. The southern part of Sweden is a bit more populated and cultivated than the north but to an Englishman I guess it still looks like one big desolate forest ;-) I can't really think up anything to do with helicopters. But there is an airforce museum "Flygvapenmuseum" near Linköping, some 200 km south from Stockholm. They seem to have a few 'copters on display and maybe you're general aviation nuts? Reasonable accomodation would be cabins, either at someones house advertised by the sign "Stuga" by the roadside (or room to rent "Rum") or at campsites. Another option would be the Youth Hostels that are usually rather posh here. In cabins you bring your own linen and at hostels you pay extra if you don't bring your own. Roads is quite tricky. As motorways go, the ones from Gothenburg are OK, varying scenery and especially the one towards Borås is a bit 3-dimensional. The motorway up the east shore of lake Vättern is considered nice too but I prefer the old road (as usual) even if it takes forever to get anywhere on it. For a very unpractical way to get from Gothenburg to Stockholm I'd go something like (get a map out): Alingsås, Annelund, Floby, Varnhem, Tidan, Karlsborg, Askersund, Kumla, Sköllersta, Äsköping, Alberga, Eskilstuna and then you're too far east for me. If you go southeast, avoid the Borås to Jönköping road [1]. go for Skene, Tranemo, Värnamo instead. Or maybe even better to go south along the coast and then east. A long cold winter has wreacked havoc with the smaller roads and some of them are more like mogul pists, be warned. Bohuslän (the coast north of Gothenburg) is too nice. It's crowded in summer. It might be worth a day but you'd probably have to go inland to find accomodation. If you manage to get somewhere to sleep, Smögen / Kungshamn is the party place. Unfortunately there are cameras about and they are installing lots of new ones. OTOH, all cameras I've seen take the picture from the front, so open your visor and thumb your nose at them. There are flesh and blood police around and speeding is their first (only?) priority. The island Öland on the south part of the east coast is well worth a visit. Can be a bit crowded too. Borgholm has some night life. Finally, and I'll get killed if anyone from Gothenburg reads this, Stockholm is a very nice city. Please come back if there are more specific questions during planning.
Interspersed with watery bits. That'd be right I know it. A little more welcoming than FFV at Arboga, where the security guards come at you with guns drawn for standing next to their fence. Bolshie twats wanted to see my ID. I told 'em to **** off as we Brits dn't have ID cards. I doubt that tactic would work these days though. I've got a summerstuga in Västra skidvi booked already, but that'll be used as a "base of ops" and I'd forgotten about roadside stugor. Thanks for the reminder. by the roadside (or room And probably used by youths, rather than old farts. In cabins you Yeah, but they've stuck cheese cutter wire barriers along some of the north eastern bits now. Getting from Västerås to Stockholm is a dangerous trip these days. And into the area I'm more familiar with. That sounds like a plan I could live with. I've never been "that" way round. I'll be keeping off them then. A bit like here then. That's got to be a bare faced lie It is if you want to see the Wasa ship or spend money at Hennes and Mauritz. Or get gayed. My missus hates the place and I'm not a lover of it myself. In the bigger towns the name still has some relevance even if you'll find guests of all ages. In the country the mix is more even and the old tendency to frown at motorised tourism is history as well. No, by all means try to get of the boring main roads (with lots of police, cameras, caravans, lorries and wire crash barriers). Many roads are well built (I was a bit too general) and are in a reasonable state (for Sweden). Just be aware of the problem. Well, if you just look at a map it seems highly unlikely but I have it from semi reliable sources. It is one of those places that has many times more tourists than inhabitants during the summer holidays. OTOH, I found Öland nice even without any partying.
