FOAK: marking lines on a map?

I'd like to highlight my travels on a map and update it as I go. The
map will go on a blog. I've seen things like the Spot, but that only
puts a dot on a map and doesn't show the roads followed.
    Any ideas?

Got an iPhone? I'd recommend "Trails"

Simple enough for me to use with my Etrex.

    or just plain Jurassic:

Aviators use plastic coated maps and a chinagraph pencil.
The pencil is a waxy stuff that gets wiped off for the next flight.

    Yeah. That's the when-all-else-fails semi-low-tech method since I
don't have a GPS. Use a marker pen and take a digital photo of the
paper map. It has a certain funky quality to it, but it would be nice
to have a Google Earth image.

Everything is possible, with a varying amount of fiddling.

My suggestion would be to use Google "My Maps". It allows you to draw
routes and place markers etc in a fairly free form fashion.

You can embed it on your blog like this:

There's all sorts of other options, depending on how technical you are.
The main things to look into would be the Google Maps API and the
OpenLayers library, which gives you better access to Ordnance Survey
    mapping.

This site's intended for cyclists, and although a bit of a faff to
use, offers a lot more functionality, like plotting climbs/descents,
than what you want, but I think it should also be fine for your basic
needs. If you register you can save your 'route' and send direct links
to them, IIRC, which should mean you don't even need to C&P them to
    another site.

Pins? Marker pens are much better.
Ain't got no iphone, crackberry, or GPS. I'm not really a luddite,
    just cheap and lazy.

This is an example of what I did a few years ago. It's prolly as good
as anything else, but I'll play with a couple of the other
    suggestions, too.

  12. It wasn't entirely serious.
Funny how most (or at least, me) tend to go clockwise on a route like
that. I notice how there's a balance of sea, sky, mountain, desert,
    cityscum, redneck.

I know, but pins are a bit analogous to Spot locs. If you do a bunch
of short roads in an area, single GPS coordinates don't really convey
    a route.
    Well, all but the desert.
