FOAK: MOT emissions testing

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Sean Hamerton, Feb 5, 2011.

  1. I've acquired a 1993 K-reg MR2 for a charity rally in July, but I plan
to keep the car afterwards as it's in pretty good nick.

The cat is totally shot and my team mate is planning to molish a
    straight pipe replacement for it.

My question to the FOAK is whether the car will be unlikely to pass an
MOT emissions test in when due in October, or if such tests even apply
to a car of 1993 vintage?

I may well spam the group for sponsorship in the near future, any
contributions welcome - it's in aid of Cancer Research UK.

1992 was when the emissions test was tightened up so that you really needed
a cat - there's no specific requirement to have one fitted, but most cars
won't pass the emissions test without.

Cats are usually very cheap these days - try BodyShopWarehouse or
    BuyPartsBy.

£200 last summer for a cat for a beemer.
I tried Kwik-Fit who quoted £500, but also recommended a decent cheap
    exhaust specialist.
