Anyone know what these are? Cos I don't :

    www.flashgorman.com/things.jpg

They have bone handles and are about three inches long. The thing one says
something like "FRODGERS & SONS INVENTOR" and "4to8"

They may be something to so with sewing.

That'll probably be "F Rodgers & Sons ...". HTH, but nothing on
    Google.

To me, they look like some sort of drawing template tool. Like you get
for stretching wire but I'm not sure why any such tool would be
    hand-held.
    New hobby? Allotmenting too manly?

  7. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "flashgorman"
They look like setting-up or sizing implements of some sort. Quite
possibly to do with looms or sewing machines, as you guess.

I thought the handles looked like something lacemakers used.

X-posted to uk.rec.models.engineering. There's all sorts of weirdos and
collectors of odd stuff in there. ;^)

So did I but, according to a lacemaker I asked today, apparently not.
Or, at least, she didn't recognise it as such.

Having turned a few, I'd agree that the 'handle' end looks much like a
lacemaker's bobbin. The business end however, doesn't.

They are gauges of some sort, by the numbers on them - is the very top
edge of the right hand one tapered, to give four different
    thicknesses?

    Pip says...
My mum's got hundreds of lacemakers bobbins from all over Europe. That's
what made me think they were something to do with that trade.
