Sure we did. Every night in fact.

Good for you. Our aim was to do a round trip in an allotted time. We
achieved that aim and had a great time doing so.

That could be around here (Northern California/Nevada). I can't
complain about the roads (apart from the fucking pot holes on one road
on the way to work), decent scenery (Yosemite is a few hours south, Lake
Tahoe is nice, Crater Lake is not too far away either).

Eventually, calls to travel agencies led to "er, may be you should've booked
earlier to get a decent price" :-(

 

(a) Don't use travel agencies
(b) If you're talking this year and this side of early September aka
Labor Day weekend, it's going to be expensive.

Out here, mid-September should be fine but then again people who lived
for a while up here at Lake Tahoe have seen it snow pretty much every
month of year. Not every year, obviously.

 

Don't use them normally but

i) I don't know much about the place.
ii) Much job ahead until holidays.
