I've not had a consultation for a while, so I can't get Tesco or similar
to send me lenses in the post.

I do, however, know my lens specification and prescription - is there a
recommended supplier who'll not dig into my prescription history?

I just want a box of daily disposables to wear for sports / swimming and
possibly on the bike - I'll not be wearing them long-term, so a single
box will probably last me at least a year.

Why don't you do the sensible thing and go for a consultation? It's
not just about checking your prescription has remained the same but
you'll know that someone has had a good peer at your eyes to make sure
    there aren't any other problems.

So you are willing to drive knowing you may have defective vision and
are willing not to do anything about it ?

It's a PITA finding time to do it - getting a new lens prescription
takes 2 visits to the optician and they will only do them on certain
    days.

I have a current glasses prescription, so I know my eyes are fine, and I
know what kind of lenses I need, so I didn't really see the point in
booking a new consultation. The last few times I've done that, I've
spent time and effort on it, only to be told there was no change.

However, it does seem that it may be a good idea, 'cos the lens
prescription and glasses prescription would appear to be different.

I think you'll find that I can't be arsed with the jumping through hoops
to get a new contact lens prescription when I'm only going to wear them
    once or twice a month.

I'd never go back to daily use, so if I need to get back for a
consultation, I probably won't bother at all.

Its beyond belief that to get the annual tax disc the owner does not have to
provide a new eye exam cert and prove they have purchased the appropriate
    lenses.

What planet are you living on? Find a local optician, ring up for
appointment, walk in, sit down, stand up, receive prescription.

I've spoken to a few (well, Katie did, 'cos she's going through it at
the moment) - they do an initial consultation, order in some trial-fit
lenses, then call you back in.

    **** that.

The second visit takes about 15 mins IIRC, it's hardly a hassle. I just
picked a convinient time on a saturday, when I'd be in to town to do
    other things anyway.

Go to fucking Vision Express then. Ring for an eye test appointment, go get
your eyes tested (fully, I might add) then **** off to your chosen
specs/lens supplier. No rocket science required.

It'd require more paperwork and more manpower, so it'd cost in time and
money. I don't fancy the idea of going back to the post office (or wherever)
for a tax disc when I've got used to doing stuff like that on-line either.

Anyway, if all drivers could see properly, what a mockery it'd make of the
old SMIDSY rule when they plough into a bike.

I had a guy in once for a check up, under much duress as we wouldn't issue
new lenses without one, who had a piece of rusting swarf embedded in his
cornea. If I had given him the lenses he (and more to the point I) would
    have been fucked.

Were you not giving me shit for not taking a few extra minutes to walk to
work in my 'short journeys' thread a while ago?
