    I didn't understand a word of that.

Simon, I get Jalbum to save the album to a directory, then upload that
directory to my website. Here's the one I did this evening after a
    day's whale-watching. Quick and easy.

He's hosting his website locally, so he can get Jalbum to write
directly[1] to the folder which the server serves.
[1]Directly across the network, that is.

I did, but can't find the option to get Jalbum to write to a local (or
    network) disc.

On the main display, under "Skin and style", next to the skin name
dropdown, there's a little button for settings. Click that. Under the
General tab, there's a setting for "Output directory".

On a server that doesn't exist.

    That's the magic bit.

That's what I thought. When I became a pro photographer, I just loaded
Coppermine on one of my sites (minutes) and straight away was able to add to
albums from any web browser anywhere. Limited only by available disc space.
Or host at home for free with a .dyndns.org domain. Lemon squeezy.

No there isn't - there isn't even a Skin and Style drop down, under the
design tab there is but there isn't a little button. Screenshot?
