Moving in this weekend, can the font suggest, recommend, steer me away
from any brands or model numbers? I've got about a grand and a half to
    splurge, at most, ideally.

oven: dont really care, just needs the usual bits. Theres a gas
supply... is gas or leccy any better than the other price or
runningcosts-wise? Im sure im less llikely to kill myself with a leccy one.

washer-dryer: nothing fancy, Ill probably just end up washing everything
at 40ºc anyway, thats what Ive always done. Theres no outlet for a
specific dryer vent. Do they even still have these?

    dishwaser: no idea....

fridge freezer: The place im moving into already has a fridge in the
kitchen. I can either get a half height freezer to go next to it or get
a freezer / fridge freezer to go in the garage, which is conveniently
connected to the kitchen. The other half wont let me get a big american
    food centre/slushie maker ;-)

  2. I've bought recently (as in the last six months):

A Servis washer / drier = Thumbs up
A Beko fridge / freezer = Thumbs up
A Teba cooker and hob[1]= Thumbs up
You won't die of carbon monoxide poisoning with an electric one if you
don't have a well ventilated house.
    See above
    Pair of Marigolds.
    See above.

[1]Hardly used so can't give a definitive opinion but it does pizzas
well and the hob's good. Oh, and it makes better toast than a toaster.

Gas hob and electric fan oven.
Don't get a washer-dryer. They're not very good at drying stuff as the
drum is generally too small. Get a separate condensor dryer which means
    you don't need an outlet.
Can't help with that. We were about to get a counter-top jobbie as
there's no room for another appliance in the kitchen, but we can't even
get one of those in there.
Half height and frost free for the kitchen and a small chest freezer in
    the garage.

Brands. Bosch or Miele if you can afford it, everything else apart from
pikey own-label stuff all seems to be the same.

SteveH emerged from their own little world to say
I concur. Seems the best combination if the oven is a double one [1].

Such a system came with my mum's new house and I've used it a lot to cook
    meals for large family gatherings.

[1] large fan oven with a smaller oven/grill above

Got an indesit one that matches our (soon to be defunct washing machine)
Seems much better than the washing machine [1] and gets stuff [2] lovely
    and clean.
    Get another other half then

I've given up with the shite stuff and bought Bosch washing machine and
dishwasher. They basically do what it says on the tin, and just work.

A Whirlpool washign machine we had was totally shite though, and I'd
    never have another.

Hoover are OK, as are Zanussi.

Gas hob because it gives you more control - instant heat or not, IYSWIM.
Even new-fangled halogen electric hobs don't offer that kind of control
    over the heat.

Electric oven as it gives more consistant heat, especially with a fan.
I'm sure the relative humidity of the interior of a gas vs electric oven
has something to do with it, but I could be well wide of the mark with
this - just makes sense to me.

She cracked a joke last week, so I have my doubts.

Added to that, not once has she bombed our chip shop, which is a sure
sign if ever I saw one.

  14. I've not used an electric fan oven but I would always want to have a gas
hob. At least you see the flame and properly control the heat. If you
cook with a wok then gas is by far the best option.

You have my sympathy about trying to decide what to buy for your
kitchen. I'm still in research mode for my home improvements and am
amazed at the mind boggling range of things that you have to decide on
in order to get a kitchen or a bathroom that is remotely functional. No
wonder it costs bloody thousands of pounds.

I've just ordered and taken delivery of:

    http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/826668.html

And a whole load of built-in appliances:

    http://www.biasco.com/product_info/4469
    http://www.biasco.com/product_info/4482
    http://www.biasco.com/product_info/4523
    http://www.biasco.com/product_info/4610
    http://www.biasco.com/product_info/2779

None of these are the cheapest available. But they're pretty
much the cheapest A-energy and performance rated appliances
I could find on the net.

The fridge was from comet because they are doing it pretty
much 170 quid cheaper than anywhere else. 300 notes for an A
rated frost free fridge/freezer seems like a reasonable deal to me.

All I've got to do now is fit the buggerin' things and finish off about
3000 other major and minor things on my 'to do' list.

ObBikes: Roll on the new race season, *please*, save me from DIY hell.

Tell me about it. I've finished the Bathroom now (cost me 2.7k). and I'm
65% through the Kitchen (will be about 4k) when I'm done. I was staggered
to see prices for similar jobs to mine being quoted at 300-400% increases.
But having gone through the process, I can see that they are very time
    consuming
jobs, designing, specifying, building in and coping with the inevitable list
    of jobs
that *crop up* due to hidden problems once the old stuff is pulled out.
Can't wait till I get my flat back in some sort of order, it's a bloody tip
    atm.

Did this a while ago - got Bosch everything, from www.hienergyshop.co.uk, but
check kelkoo and friends for the current best deals. Got a condenser drier,
1200 spin washer, half-width dishwasher and fridge-freezer (40/60) for about
    £1100

Washer driers are shit, so definitely go for separate machines if you can.
Condenser driers are great if you don't have space to plumb in a vent, but
the drying bit on most washer driers, even though they're sort-of-condensers,
is utter bollocks. You can always stick the drier in the garage.

When buying a fridge freezer, remember that you only need a fridge
compartment big enough to hold 3 days' worth of fresh food for your household
    - unless you like throwing food away.

No real difference between a gas or electric oven IMO. Electric fan ovens
are more efficient than normal gas/electric ovens, but they have their
drawbacks. Obviously, don't bother with a fucking Aga.
