Time flies, and it seems that I will be attending a football match in the
Netherlands next Wednesday. I need to get across the Channel next Wednesday,
about 1pm-ish, and back again late, maybe departing 1am early Thursday
    morning.

What's the best / cheapest method? I've used Norfolk Line in the past for
such crazy endeavours. NB We'll be in a cage FWIW.

Interesting. Norfolk Line goes from Dunkerque which is a bonus as it's about
half an hour nearer than Calais AFAIR, but takes 1h45 to cross.

But the Chunnel has a 1:22am departure time. The game finishes about 10:30pm,
assume we start the return drive at 11:00pm. Google Maps reckons 232 miles
Arnhem -> Calais, in 3h23. To be sure, I'd need to average around 110mph on
the way back, although of course we might get back to the car earlier. I have
no idea if Arnhem is a large city.

I wonder if that is cutting it fine, even for a driving god like me.

As per my other post, I'm not sure we can get back to Calais by 1.22. Might
    get the Norfolk Line 2am.

    What's so bollocks about Dover?[1]

I love the fact that the bog-standard day/overnight Chunnel fare offers:
"More flexibility - whilst only valid for the booked departure time we will,
at no extra charge, allocate you a space on the next available shuttle if you
arrive at Check-In within 2 hours of your booked departure time"

Does that mean two hours either way? Then I could book the 01:22 and if
we miss it and arrive at say 02:00, we could jump on the 03:25.

I've used it once, with Sweller, and they stopped the both of us.

They swabbed the bikes over and everything.

That's fine by me, I've never found them to be overly attractive.

Don't think so. I've travelled with Sweller on other occasion and not been
    swabbed.

My best trick was complaining that they'd let the fucking paddies
through so why had I been pulled for a search at Harwich when we were
on our way to Germany last winter. They then stopped Burnt and had a
good look in one of his bags in an effort to make me feel better.

On our way to Disney with the kids (in the car, obv) we got
stopped and pulled in for the check on the way *out* as well
as on the way back in.

They obviously don't check everything as the car MOT had
run out while we were away!

even customs officers think X5 drivers are cunts.

Seriously though, when I used to do the "booze run" to Calais in the
Jeep, I'd get pulled 66% of the time on the way back into dear old
    blighty.

They could never quite get their heads around the fact I had a car
chock full of wine, but no fags.
