So what? Why would a potential buyer be aware that certain bits of
wiring, new sockets, whatever, would have been done after a certain
time? I mean, yes, if you had an extension built, then sure, it'll be
obvious, but running a new socket into a garage or shed, **** it, I
    say.

Which is academic, since the new wiring colours came out before Part P
    came into force

Ahh I didn't know that. Still, using old wiring colours makes it
look like a certainty the work was done before part-p.

Well, in my case it's pretty obvious that the kitchen and bathroom in
my house are brand new, and I'm selling next year. So I'll fully
expect a potential purchaser to ask if any Part-P work was done and to
    see the certs.

As it was, I went down the competent person route for the new shower
and oven circuits. My Father-in-law [1] and I did the work, and he
had a sparky mate sign it off.

    Cheers all.

I suspect that most sparks will know, and I won't be doing the work
myself. It's just none of the kitchen designers I've spoken to knew
when asked directly, you'd think they'd know the regs. And a search
unearthed almost everything *except* the current water <-> power
    distance.

I've got an old building regs diagram that shows what you could have
    where, but it's a 1994 edition.

It's 300mm from the sink edge. That means the draining board or sink
    bowl, not just the tap.
