Electric guitars are VERY ow output and generally speaking need either a DI box or a pre-amp if you're going straight into a P.A. amp. Even Elixir cables (around 50 quid per) piss all over your average 10 quid cables to the point where I'd only use a 10 quid cable to tie me kangaroo down. I certainly wouldn't use one to link a guitar to an amp. However, even if a pre-amp is used (like my acoustic/transducer) a shit cable will still give shit sound. It'll also transmit floor noises (people stamping feet is a prime example) and generally be a pain in the arse. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19

But then you'll spend your time telling everyone how proud you are of your roots (even though it wasn't your choice to be born there) and how uplifting it is to be a *true* northerner. A bit like Anne Robinson waffles on about being a scouser. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
And on the flipside, it's better than Valentine's day in Chicago. And not nearly as smoky. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Pah. Test Match Special is all a man needs in the middle of winter. Shame about the score but you can't have everything.
Ok, speaker cables can be crap and still pass along a great sound. I'm fucking glad I learned that. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Precisely. A bit like "A home computer will never need more than 48K of memory" Ridiculous to even contemplate needing as much as 128K. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Nothing like that at all. Unless the laws of physics have changed recently then the rule of thumb is the same as it always was: a figure 8 cable with resistance less than 5% of the speaker's minimum impedance. You can use special cables with lower capacitance and higher inductance or vice versa and these will change the sound. But this is entirely due to the change in frequency response caused by the L, C and R values. All else is snake oil.
Is that sentence finished? It seems to be missing something to me, like an end. So you're saying that some cables result in a different (better or worse) sound than others. I thang ewe. Or have you miswrote and inadvertently agreed with my original argument that some cables are better than others and you can *hear* the difference. Be they guitar or speaker cables? -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Certainly sounds that way, to me. -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 145 2.0 Cloverleaf 156 V6 2.5 S2 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
