So, the C90 I put on eBay has sold [1] to a chap that lives in Southern
    Ireland.

The DVLA site has useful information about what to do if I'm taking a
bike abroad permanently myself, but not what to do if I'm selling it to
    someone who lives "abroad".

Anyone done it? [2] and can point me in the right direction, or is it a
call to the local DVLA office tomorrow?

[1] To within £1 of what TOG suggested it would make, clever bastard.

    [2] Properly

I brought the VTR from the UK over here, I had to do all the official bits
myself. As long as he has the V5, I think he can do the same...

I don't really care if he can register it or not, I just want to be sure
I get it off of the books at this end, IYSWIM.

Seems like you do the usual, but you have to write a letter informing
the DVLA of the sale and send it to them along with the V5C. (minus new
    keeper supplement)

I sold my Morini K2 to a very eccentric chap from Eire. IIRC I just
filled in the V5C/4 bit. That was 10 years ago though.

  7. Heh? Really? Made my day, that has. I can't remember what I said it
    would fetch.

Ok then, what value should I put on the newly refurbished 1981 SR250 for
insurance purposes? I'm not planning on flogging it, just need a
    guideline for Auntie Carole.

  9. It's amazing what some ShiteOldBikes will fetch. I see my CM200 is on
£122 already, and there's a full week before the auction times out.
There are 52 people watching it, as well.

I suppose a C90 is easy to fix, and if you've got some bits lying
around.... Face it, £300 doesn't buy you much these days although (cue a
thread from a few weeks ago) you can get a decent functioning car for
less. It's a funny old world.

Sounds like some money laundering scheme to me.

ICBW, but I would think that if you fill in the details of the new owner and
send off the slip to the DVLA, your responsibility for that vehicle is
    ended.

After that, it's up to the new owner to do the necessary.

Fair play, I'll insure it for £800 then. Thanks

  14. I'd have thought anybody would give £600 for it. Skanky but running and
    MOT'd SR250s fetch £300-400.

  15. Dunno what the current V5 looks like, but you tell DVLA it's been
permanently exported and the buyer also does, usually from his end. When
he registers it here, the local council will take the docs from him and
issue him a new reg doc.

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the

Indeed it is. I got a Cavalier 8 years ago for 150 quid. I never changed the
oil and I never had it serviced, coz I got i to tide me over for a few
weeks. 7 years later, some scrote nicked it coz he couldn't be arsed calling
a taxi and it was discovered 2 days later with a slight knock on the front
bumper with the doors locked. (Nice of him to think about locking it up I
    thought)

It died pretty soon after though, so it must've been ragged to death in the
4 miles or so it travelled by scrote, but while I had it it never let me
    down.

My current "stop gap" motor is an old Honda Civic (400 quid) and it's
already done 6000 miles since I got it. I *may* change the oil on this one
    day:)

I now have £301 in my hand (well almost, I spent some on petrol), and
the C90 should be at its new home in Donegal this evening.

Buyer has a mate that collects cars from the mainland a couple of times
a week. Said mate landed in Liverpool this morning, picked up a couple
of cars in Brum, then strapped the C90 to the low-loader, before heading
off to London to pick up a couple more cars and a van, with the
intention of being back on the boat home this evening...

    Rather them than me.

Oh, and the money thing was achieved using an envelope full of notes and
    a pound coin.
